What is NEET PG 2023?

NEET PG (National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Post-Graduation) is a test that is administered across the country to provide admission to various MD (Doctor of Medicine), MS (Master of Surgery), and post-graduation diploma programs. The test is computer-based and administered by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) once a year. Admission to postgraduate MBBS DNB programs is also based on the scores. The test is held for 10,821 MS seats, 9,953 MD seats, and 1,979 PG Diploma seats available in Indian medical colleges.

Exam Pattern

According to the NEET PG Test Pattern 2023, the exam paper will have 200 questions. Examining the most recent exam pattern is a vital step in establishing a solid exam preparation strategy.

  • NEET PG Exam Medium: The question paper is exclusively available in English.
  • The exam is held in online CBT method at 800+ exam centres spread throughout India’s main cities.
  • There are 200 multiple-choice questions. Non-MCQ questions are not included in the test.
  • Number of Parts: Pre-clinical (Part A), Para-clinical (Part B), and Clinical (Part C) (Part C).
  • NEET PG Grading System: Each correct answer receives 4 points, while erroneous responses have a 25% penalty. No scores are deducted for questions that are not attempted.
  • NEET PG Total Marks: The paper will be worth 800 points.
  • 3.30 hours for the NEET PG Exam (210 minutes). There is no segmentation of time.
  • Subject-wise Question Division: There is no pre-defined question divide between subjects. The projected subject-wise distribution of questions for the NEET PG 2023 exam is given in the next section.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to apply for NEET PG 2023 need to be eligible in the following criteria before applying for it. You can have a look at the eligibility criteria for NEET PG over here: 

  • Aspirants should have an MBBS degree / Provisional Pass Certificate recognised as per the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.
  • They should also have a permanent/provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India or the State Medical Council.
  • They must have completed the duration of the internship on or before August 11, 2023.
  • Aspirants found ineligible at any stage will not be permitted to take the exam or appear for counselling.
  • The result of the candidature of ineligible candidates will be cancelled.
  • Nationality: Indian nationals are eligible to apply for the exam. Foreign Medical Graduates (Indian citizens or OCIs) who passed the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) are also eligible to apply.
  • Foreign Residents: A temporary registration from the National Medical Commission (NMC) is required upon payment of a small fee.

How to Register for NEET PG Exam?

Before you fill out the application form for your exam, you need to register yourself for the exam. Follow the instructions to register yourself for the Exam:

  • Go to  www.nbe.edu.in.
  • Click on NEET 2023 post-graduation exam.
  • Click on ‘New Registration’ where you will be directed to register for the exam.
  • Here, you need to fill in the following details:
    1. Name of Candidate
    2. Date of Birth
    3. Gender
    4. Nationality
    5. Mobile Number
    6. Email Address
    7. Captcha
  • Once you have successfully registered, you will receive an email and an SMS with your Login ID and password. 

How To Fill NEET PG Application?

You can submit your application to the National Board of Examinations. You can apply at www.nbe.edu.in.

  • Fill out the registration form and you will receive a Login ID and Password.
  • You will receive your login ID and password on your Email ID and Phone.
  • Fill out the application form by logging into your ID.
  • Upload your photograph, signature and thumb impressions.
  • Choose your test city
  • Make the payment 
  • You will receive the application that you must then print out and use for further use.

NEET PG 2023: Admit Card

The NEET PG 2023 Admit Card includes the exam centre address, time, slot, candidate information, and exam day instructions. Applicants must attach a current passport-size photograph to their printed admission card. On the day of the exam, you must bring a printout of your admit card as well as a valid ID proof to the exam centre.

How to Admit NEET PG 2023 Admit Card?

  • Go to the official website at nbe.edu.in.
  • Choose the ‘NEET PG’ option.
  • To open the login window, click on the ‘NEET PG Admit Card’ link.
  • Enter your username and password.
  • The screen will display your NEET PG Admit Card.
  • Download, save, and print it for later use.

On the day of the exam, you need to follow certain procedures that will guide you through the exam. Students need to arrive at least 2 hours early to complete the requirements:

NEET PG 2023: Result

NBE issued the NEET PG 2023 Result as a PDF file on March 14, 2023. It is accessible via the official website, natboard.edu.in. The NEET PG result pdf includes the candidate’s roll number and marks out of 800. After a week, the 2022 Scorecard will be available on the official NBE website. The outcome will be valid for only one academic session, 2023-24.

Later, NBE will announce the NEET PG result-cum-merit list 2023 for 50% AIQ seats. The NBE’s official website will have the 50% All India Quota Scorecard available for download.

Counselling and Cut Offs

The NEET PG cut-off is the lowest score required to participate in the counselling procedure for admission to MD/MS/PG Diploma programmes. Together with the results, the 2023 cut-off has been revealed.

NEET PG Counselling is held for about 26,188 MD seats, 13,649 MS seats, 1,979 PG Diploma seats, and 1326 DNB CET seats. MCC will conduct NEET PG Counselling 2023 for 50% AIQ & 100% Deemed & Central Universities, AFMS, and ESIC seats. The exam counselling will be performed by the appropriate state agencies for 100% private universities, 85% state quota seats, and minority colleges. After each round of counselling, the Seat Allocation Result will be issued.

Previous Paper Analysis

NEET PG 2022 was held on May 21, 2022. Around 80% of test takers regarded the exam as somewhat tough, while 20% thought the paper was simpler than in 2021.

Questions from Obstetrics, Pathology, Mycology, Gynaecology, ENT, and Pharmacology were more prominent in NEET PG 2022.
Questions on COVID-19 were primarily asked in the paraclinical subject.
There was no new element and all the questions were based on the syllabus.
2021The overall difficulty of the question paper was moderate.
Parts A and B were of easy to moderate difficulty level, while Part C was more time-consuming.
The focus of the paper was on clinical knowledge, however, the questions were not confusing and doable.
60% of questions were clinical while the rest were conceptual and one-liners.
Maximum questions were asked on topics of general medicine, preventive and social medicine, and pharmacology.
Topics like Forensic Medicine, Ophthalmology, and ENT saw the least number of questions.
The image-based questions made up only 20% of the paper. 
202054 questions of moderate level were asked in Part A from anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry.
100 questions were asked in Part B. 25% of the questions were from Social & Preventive Medicine alone.
Also, 25 straightforward questions were asked from Pathology, while 20 questions each were asked from Microbiology and Pharmacology in Part B of the paper.
The maximum weightage in Part C of the paper was of 2 subjects: General Surgery including Orthopedics & Anesthesia and General Medicine.
