What is NCHMCT JEE?

NCHMCT JEE or National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint Entrance Examination is a national level entrance test conducted to offer admission to candidates in Hotel and Hospitality Management courses. This exam was earlier (till 2018) conducted by the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHM & CT), an autonomous council set up in 1982 under the Government of India. From 2019, The charge of conducting this examination was entrusted to the National Testing Agency (NTA) which will be conducting the NCHMCT JEE 2021 exam for admission to the B.Sc. degree course in Hospitality and Hotel Administration.

Important Dates for NCHMCT

Let’s have a look at the important dates for NCHMCT exam 2021:

Date of Application

The dates for online submission of the application form for NCHMCT 2021 were from 3rd week of January 2021 to 4th week of March 2021 and the candidates are allowed to make the transaction of fees between 1st January to 21st March 2021. The start date to download the NCHMCT JEE admit card for 2021 is 1st week of April 2021. The fees for candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories is Rs. 900, while it was Rs. 700 for the EWS category. SC, ST, PwD and Transgender candidates had to pay a fee of Rs. 450.

Date of Exam

The NCHMCT JEE exam will be scheduled to be held between 9:30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on the 4th week of April 2021. The results will be announced shortly by the month of May or June 2021. The candidates are also advised to keep checking the NTA website for the latest updates.

Eligibility Criteria 

To apply for this exam, a candidate has to be of indian nationality and has to fulfil certain eligibility criteria as regards to their education, physical fitness and age.

Eligibility criteria regards to Education

The minimum eligibility requirements for appearing at NCHMCT JEE exam is passing the 10+2 Senior Secondary exam or its equivalent. The candidates also need to have studied english as a core, elective or functional subject for the exam. Candidates appearing for their 10+2 or equivalent exam are also eligible to apply on a provisional basis. Candidates selected for provisional admission need to provide proof of having passed the examination latest by the time of their admission, without which their candidature will be cancelled.

Eligibility criteria regards to Physical Fitness

All candidates qualified in the exam will be required to submit a certificate of physical fitness for carrying out practical claims as required in the course. They have to produce the document certified by a registered medical practitioner in the format prescribed at the time of admission.

Eligibility Criteria with respect to Age

The upper age limit for candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories (including physically challenged candidates of these categories) is 25 years as on 1st July 2021.

For candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories, the upper limit is 28 years as on 1st of July, 2021. It is to be noted that the date of birth mentioned in the Secondary exam (class 10th) passing certificate or the pre-university certificate will be regarded as the only acceptable proof of age.

Application Process

To apply for NCHMCT 2021, the applicant will have to follow the steps given below:

  1. The candidate will first have to register for application by filling up the registration form available for the NCHMCT exam at the NTA website. After successful registration, the application number of the candidate will be generated by the system.
  2. The candidate needs to log in to the system to fill up the application form using the generated application number and their password chosen during registration. The applicant must fill up the information required in the application form carefully before submission.
  3. Next, the candidate needs to upload scanned copies of their recent passport size colour photo and signature. It is to be noted that the images should be in JPG or JPEG format with the size of photograph being between 10 to 200kb, while the signature file size should be between 4 to 30kb.
  4. In the next step the candidate has to pay the required fees according to their category of application. The accepted options for payment include debit card, credit card, net banking, PayTM and UPI.
  5. After successful payment, the confirmation page will be generated, which can be downloaded and printed by the candidate.

NCHMCT JEE Exam Pattern

The NCHMCT JEE exam will be in the format of an online Computer Based Test (CBT) of three hours duration. There will be a total of 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs) testing the candidates knowledge in the subjects of Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude, Reasoning and Logical Deduction, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, English Language and Aptitude for Service Sector. The division of questions will be as follows:

Each correct answer will fetch 4 marks, while a wrong answer will lead to a deduction of one mark. Questions which are unanswered or marked for review will not be marked.

NCHMCT Results

NTA will prepare an all India merit list of the candidates on the basis of the marks obtained in the NCHMCT JEE exam, on the basis of which they can get admission in various institutes over the country. The result of the exam was to be announced by 15th of May 2021 earlier, but the prevailing situation in the wake of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has led to postponement of the exam. The revised date for the announcement of the results will be notified by the NTA in due course.
