Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Scholarship is awarded to international students who wish to study and research at universities in Germany. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship is offered to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students. It actively promotes intercultural dialogues, the formation of international networks, and the internationalization of universities and science. Currently, the scholars of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship come from 55 countries of the world from diverse subject areas. 

Along with financial assistance, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung  Scholarship also provides mentorship to its students. The community is always connected to its alumni and makes them a part of every significant seminar sponsored by KAS.

Scholarship Awards and Duration

The Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship is also applicable for research stays in Germany for a minimum of three semesters. Here are the duration and amount of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship vary for different types of studies:

Additional Allowances

Besides the monthly stipend, the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship offers numerable subsidies for scholars upon request. The prerequisites for children’s allowance are submitting an official German translation of the child’s birth certificate and the official rejection of your demand for public child allowance. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship does not fund participation in congresses or symposia. Additional course fees at the university directly related to your studies can be refunded up to the amount of € 1.500 per semester. The KAS Foundation does not refund regular semester fees of enrollment or annual re-registration.

The KAS Foundation has more than 14.000 Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship alumni, a vibrant and worldwide network that plays an active role in politics, economics, science, and society. They also remain committed to the foundation and its current scholars. Being a recipient of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship means benefitting from a scheme of ideational support. Scholars become part of an active and living network. The program is based on three main pillars: 

• Personal contact and mentoring.
• A broad seminar program – with over 180 activities annually- for all the 3000 scholars in Germany. 
• Regional and local activities of more than 140 different university groups.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship Eligibility

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship Program is for international students and graduates who have acquired a university degree. Candidates that intend to complete postgraduate or master studies, doctoral studies, or a research stay of at least three semesters in a German university can apply for the scholarship.

Here is the eligibility for  Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship:

• Have a university degree
• Have an above-average academic record
• Have German language proficiency (at least B2-level)
• Should not be above 30 years of age while applying
• Be actively involved in voluntary work
• Intent to study at a university in Germany for a minimum of three semesters
• Possess extensive general education and a keen interest in political matters
• Have a positive approach toward democracy and human rights
• Be open to developing their perspective and practicing tolerance
• Be motivated and must convince us about their goals

Important Terms and Conditions

• Students in Medicine or Pharmacy can only apply after completing their intermediate exam in Germany or having achieved a comparable stage of their education.
• Human or dental medicine specialist training or postgraduate research stays in Germany cannot be supported.
• Persons who have already completed a doctorate are not eligible.

Application Process

Candidates who wish to secure the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship must fill out an application form at https://campus.kas.de. Candidates residing near Focus regions can submit a written application straight to the KAS office, while candidates residing in Germany can apply through the domestic online process for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship. Here is the stepwise process of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship:

1. Create an account on the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship portal at https://campus.kas.de using your email ID or mobile number.
2. You will receive login details on your registered contact number.
3. Log in to the portal and fill out the application form.
4. Attach a CV/Resume in tabular form including details about your prior voluntary work.
5. Upload a Motivation letter and other necessary documents.
6. Submit the online application after filling in all the details required.

Documents Required

Here are the mandatory documents required at the time of application form submission:

• A formal CV including previously attended social camps
• Letter of motivation
• Academic transcripts with certified translations.
• Proof of German language Proficiency Certificate (B2)
• Letter of Recommendation
  • Must be signed by the University Professor holding a doctoral. The letter should not be more than two months old.
• Joining letter from the University concerned
• A photograph (for identification purposes)
• For PhD scholars: A detailed description of their doctoral thesis (4-5 pages) written in German or English is also required in the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship application process. 

Selection Procedure

New focus regions are named for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship selection process every year. For example, the focus regions for 2020 were Europe, Southeast Asia, the Near East, and West Africa. Recipients of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship are informed online through email. Shortlisted applicants will be sent further details via nomination mail. Candidates are evaluated based on the following factors:
