Born on 2nd November 1965 to Mir Taj Muhammad Khan and Lateef Fatima, Khan spent his early five years in Mangalore with his maternal grandparents. Right from the beginning, Shahrukh Khan took a keen interest in studies. He participated in the extra-curricular activities as much as he took part in academics. Braving all the hardships, he completed his schooling at St. Columba’s School in central Delhi where he was selected as the captain of the school Hockey, Football and Cricket all at the same time.

His active participation in sports won him the “Sword of Honour” award which was the highest level of felicitation anyone could receive in the school.

Aspiring to become a sportsperson, Khan’s career took a U-turn after his pursuit was halted by an injury. But due to certain reasons, he dropped out to solidify his commitment to acting and he went on to finally follow his passion by taking up an acting course at the National School of Drama.

Becoming the King Khan of Bollywood!

Khan began his acting career from TV starring in his first role in Lekh Tandon’s Dil Dariya which started shooting in 1988 but there were some delays in the production that led to Fauji directed by Raj Kumar Kapoor as his first debut on TV. Not feeling confident enough to work in films, he played many roles in TV shows like Doordarshan’s Circus, Wagle ki Duniya, In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones and Idiot.

In the year 1991, Khan lost his mother due to complications with diabetes and somehow decided to go to Mumbai and start his film career. He later also said that this decision was in a way to escape the grief of losing his mother as he shifted from Delhi to Mumbai with nothing but meagre money to survive and make it big.

In the next two years, SRK signed around four movies, including Dil Aashna Hai, Deewana, Chamatkar and Raju Ban Gya Gentleman. He won the Filmfare Best Debut Male Award for Deewana and was lauded for the physical energy, raw enthusiasm and a fresh breather that he brought to the silver screen!

Then came SRK’s amazing anti-hero roles that were gripping and thrilling yet emotional and heartwrenching. His education in acting might have come handy as Shah Rukh Khan mesmerized the world with his incredible acting through films like Darr and Baazigar.

During his journey, the distinguished actor who has earned a great level of stardom, Khan went on to empower women and made significant contributions towards helping the underprivileged children through Meer Foundation. His efforts towards helping women to fearlessly stand against the brutality and injustice inflicted upon them at various fronts have been influential. His philanthropic work led him to earn an Honorary Doctorate from La Trobe University, Melbourne. Not only did the university appreciate his generous efforts by awarding him a PhD but also launched a scholarship in his name. Contributing to the education of Shahrukh Khan, the honorary degree added an extra star to his much-lauded personality.
