The history of the University of Winchester dates back to the year 1840 when the Winchester Diocesan Traning School was established. This school was primarily initiated to prepare teachers for educating poor children. This school was changed to Winchester Traning College in 1847. In 2005, after the significant changes, the University of Winchester was recognised by its current name and in 2008 this university was granted a university research degree by the Privy Council. The university comprises four quarters, the King Alfred Quarter, Bar End Quarter, and the West Downs Quarters. Further, all these quarters and university campuses feature appealing facilities.
