What is Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET)?

The Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) is a state-level entrance examination for teachers, administered by the Board of School Education, Haryana (BSEH). It is held once a year. Candidates can apply for this exam with a number of attempts to improve their scores. HTET qualifying certificate validity period is 5 years from the date of passing the Haryana TET Exam. It aims at the recruitment of teachers at three levels:

  1. Level I: The candidates who intend to be a teacher for classes I to V (Primary Teacher)
  2. Level -II:  The candidates who intend to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII (TGT – Trained Graduate Teacher)
  3. Level III: The candidates who want to be a PGT (Post Graduate Teacher)

Eligibility Criteria

There is some mandatory educational qualification for HTET Exam 2023 for the candidates to follow as prescribed by the NCTE. Candidates between 18 to 38 years can apply for HTET 2023. Make note that the state government may make changes in the qualifications and eligibility requirements as per the GOs issued by them for the HTET Exam.

For a Primary Teacher (1st to 5th class)

Candidates applying for Level 1 must have one of the following educational qualifications.

  • Senior Secondary or it is equivalent along with the 50% marks of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE regulations 2007
  • Senior Secondary or any equivalent along with 45% or above marks of 2- a year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE regulations 2002
  • Senior Secondary or any equivalent with 50% or above marks and passed or appearing in the final year of the 4-year B.El.Ed course
  • Senior Secondary or equivalent along with the 50% or above marks and has already completed or appeared in the final semester of 2- a year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • Completed Graduation or appearing in the final year of a 2-years Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Passed Matric with Hindi/Sanskrit or completed Senior Secondary/ Graduation/ Post Graduation with Hindi

For a Trained Graduate Teacher (6th to 8th class)

Candidates applying for Level 2 must have one of the following educational qualifications.

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree and passed or appeared in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
  • Passed Graduation in the applicable stream with at least 50% and completed or pursuing 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
  • Passed Senior Secondary or any equivalent along with 50% or above marks and completed or pursuing the final semester of the 4- year B.El.Ed (Bachelor in Elementary Education).
  • Senior Secondary or any equivalent with 50% or above marks and completed or appearing in the last year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.
  • Graduation in relevant discipline with at least 50% marks and passing or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)

For a Post Graduate Teacher (11th and 12th class)

Candidates applying for Level 3 must have the following educational qualifications.

  • Must have completed Post Graduation in the concerned subject with 50% or above marks.
  • Achieved a Bachelor of Education
  • Must have completed Matrics in Hindi and Sanskrit or Sr. Secondary/ Graduation/ Post Graduation in Hindi
  • Must have a good academic record

Application Process

The application process for HTET 2023 will tentatively begin in the month of November-December 2021. The process of registration for the exam is online. 

Step 1: Registration

 
The application form is released on the official website. (www.bseh.org.in) Aspiring candidates can visit the website and click on the “HTET 2021 application form” link on the home page. First, read all the instructions and check the eligibility criteria. Based on their eligibility, they can select the post they wish to apply for. Then, they can fill out the application form by updating their personal information, academic details, and information related to identity proof. Click on save and then click on the “submit” button. A provisional User ID and registration number will be mailed to the registered email address.

Step 2: Payment of the Application Fee


Candidates are supposed to submit a recent passport-size colour photograph and a scanned copy of the signature and thumb impression of the applicant as per the specifications. To complete the registration process, the candidate is required to pay the application fee online mode, using one of the available methods, i.e. Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking. Take a printout once the payment is made. Here is the HTET application fee for different levels:

Step 3: Download Admit Card

  • The successfully registered will be able to download their admit card online through the official website by entering their registration details on the site.
  • All the necessary information like the date, schedule, and venue of the exam will be mentioned on the admit cards
  • No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall and take the exam without an admit card
  • Aspirants are also required to carry a photo ID proof at the time of the examination
  • Candidates are preferred to be present in the exam hall one hour prior to the exam. Any electronic gadgets like mobile phones are strictly prohibited

HTET Syllabus

Elucidated below is the detailed syllabus of the HTET Exam 2023:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy: It involves the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age. It focuses on the concept of development in children, its relationship with learning and understanding children with special needs
  • Languages (Hindi and English): Questions based on passage comprehension, grammar, verbal ability, synonyms, etc to check the proficiency related to the medium of instruction
  • Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, and General Awareness: It includes elements of Mental and Reasoning Ability like mental maths, analogy, classification, and General Knowledge regarding Haryana State
  • Mathematics: Elementary maths including geometry, a number system with an emphasis on the language of mathematics is tested
  • Environmental Studies: Various concepts and principles, the scope of EVS, and pedagogical understanding of the subject are focused upon
  • Subject Opted by the Candidates (Social Studies/ Science/ Mathematics/ Others): Specific subject is chosen by the candidates. The test tests the underlying concepts in the subject, problem-solving abilities, and pedagogical understanding of the subjects
  • The subjects available for a TGT teacher (Level 2) are Social Studies, Science, Hindi, Maths, English, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu, Physical Education, Home Science, Arts, or Music
  • For Level3, applicants can choose among these subjects: English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Physical Education, Home Science, Music, Fine Arts, Mathematics, History, Geography, Sociology, Commerce, Psychology, Physics, Political Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics

Exam Pattern

Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) Exam Pattern changes depending on the level of the exam. Here are the key points of the exam pattern:

  • The total number of questions is 150
  • The question type is objective i.e. MCQ format
  • The duration of the exam is 2 hours 30 minutes
  • 1 mark will be rewarded for each correct answer
  • There will be no negative marking
  • The exam paper will be organized in both Hindi and English.
  • The level 2 and level 3 papers will have a particular section based on the specific subject they opt for
  • There is a common General Studies section in all exams at all levels with GK questions based on current affairs, Haryana’s history, geography, etc
  • The provision of a computer-based test (CBT) is also available
  • An extra time of 50 minutes will be given to differently-abled candidates (unable to write with their own hands, including blind Candidates)
  • The facility of scribe/amanuensis can be allowed to any person who has a visual disability of 40% or more or is unable to write with their own hands
  • No criteria for educational qualification, age, etc. set for the scribe/amanuensis

Result

  • The candidates who will appear in the exam will be able to check the result on the board’s official website
  • The authorities will release answer keys online mode, before the result declaration
  • To check the result, candidates are required to provide their roll numbers
  • Those candidates who will score more than the qualifying marks will be declared successful
  • The qualifying marks for different categories are as follows:
    • General/ OBC candidates: 60% marks (90 marks out of 150)
    • SC/ ST candidate: 55% marks (82 marks out of 150)
