Facebook recently launched a new initiative for Indian students from prominent law schools: the Facebook India Tech Scholars programme. This initiative was launched to provide law students with a platform for mentorship and research on topics related to policy and technology. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co is a knowledge partner of Facebook India Tech Scholars in this initiative. The initiative is set to commence this summer 2021 and the last date for applications is June 20.
A statement released said, “The programme aims to provide students from select leading law schools in the country a platform for research and mentorship on topics related to technology law and policy. The first edition of the FITS programme will offer eight law students an opportunity to work on a research project with leading Indian think tanks who will also extend mentorship support to the students.”
Facebook through the launch of this programme aims to provide law and policy enthusiasts with an experience wherein they can work independently on research projects to study emerging challenges.
With the advancement of technology and policy in India, the Facebook India Tech Scholars programme has been specifically designed to encourage and motivate students to raise their opinions on future policy discussion in this area.
“The maiden edition, the FITS programme 2021-2022, will see the Centre for Internet and Society, the Observer Research Foundation, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace India, and the Software Freedom Law Center participating as mentoring institutions.”
Indian students of the fourth and fifth year from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, WB National University of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata, National Law University, Delhi and National Law University, Jodhpur shall be able to access the current edition. The programme shall run for a period of nine months starting from Summer 2021.
