'Heal by India' initiative to place India as a global source for the health sector

As per the details shared by official sources with the PTI, the Union Health Ministry is planning the ‘Heal by India’ initiative to project India as a global source of professionals for the healthcare sector.

A study conducted by the Union Ministry finds that there is a need for doctors such as gynaecologists and dentists in the United States, while nurse practitioners are required in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, the US, Singapore, Nepal, Cuba and Israel. Also, there is a requirement for physiotherapists in the Netherlands, the US, Singapore and Cuba, and radiology and imaging technologists in the US and Israel.

To meet this demand, the ministry is all set to develop an online listing of all categories of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists. It will also mention the names of the countries where they wish to render their services.

National Health Authority (NHA) has been given this responsibility under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The NHA is collating this data in collaboration with the National Medical Commission, the Dental Council of India, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, the National Commission for Homoeopathy, the Indian Nursing Council, and the Pharmacy Council of India and the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions.

Practitioners of modern medicine, as well as the traditional system of medicine, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and 56 categories of allied health professionals, will be listed in the portal. The portal will work as a common platform that will allow the workers and recruiters from India and abroad to search and select each other according to the requirement.

The portal is expected to be live from August 15 this year. Healthcare professionals will be able to register themselves and even have the option to mention the countries of their interest, making the process simple for them.

This strategy will also help the ministry to enhance the educational quality of Indian institutions. This, in turn, will help produce better-trained professionals who are better-prepared to work in any corner of the globe.
