Born on 3 February 1963 in Madhya Pradesh, Raghuram Govind Rajan is an Indian Economist who has been vital in reshaping and upliftment of the Indian economy. Known as the ‘Rockstar’ and a ‘Prophet’ in the field of Economics, he predicted the US economic crisis of 2008 beforehand in 2005. He began his professional career as a teacher at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business where he was appointed as an Assistant Professor. He later travelled to Northwestern University as a visiting professor.
The year 2003 saw him rising as an economist when he was selected as a chief economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) where he headed the departments of research and counselling. In the same year, He was awarded the ‘Fischer Black Prize‘ by the American Finance Association for his exceptional performance in the sphere of Finance. The commendable work and education of Raghuram Rajan paved his way to becoming 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. During his three year tenure as the Governor of RBI, he made a remarkable contribution to bringing back the ‘Rupee‘ from inflation. In 2008, Rajan was appointed as the honorary economic consultant to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
