Unit 1: Computer Fundamentals 

This unit of Computer Science class 11 introduces the students to the evolution of and basics of computers and its operation through the following chapters:

• Booting concept, functional components and inter-connections, usage of operating systems for a directory listing, installation and removal of applications
• Concepts of software (types and utility)
• System Software
• Operating systems

Unit 2: Programming Methodology

The second unit of Computer Science class 11 covers the following prominent topics:

• Documentation and program maintenance
• Running and debugging programs
• Syntax errors
• Identification of logical and arithmetic operations
• Looping and condition control

Unit 3: Introduction to Programming in C++

This unit of Computer Science class 11 aims at introducing the students with programming in C++. Given below are the notable topics for the students to study.

• Programming through examples in C++ language (C++ character set, the structure of C++ program, C++ Tokens, error messages, use of IO operators, usage of editor and its commands, standard input and output operations from C)
• Data Types, Variables and Constants (concept of data types, constants, access modifier, variables, type modifier, etc.)
• Operators and Expressions (arithmetic operators, increment and decrement operators, precedence of operators, automatic type conversion in expression, etc.)
• Flow of Control (conditional statements, break statements, loops, etc.)
• Structured Data Type: Array (declaration and initialization of one and two-dimensional array, manipulation of the elements of Array, string manipulators, etc.)
• User-defined Functions (definition, prototype, passing arguments to function, constant and default arguments, calling functions with array, etc.)
• Mathematical and Other Functions
• Event Programming: Games as an example (developing user interface, development of logic for playing the game and scoring points, etc.)

Unit 4: Computer System Organization

The last unit of Computer Science class 11 familiarises students with an array of topics which are:

• Number system (binary, decimal, octal, conversion between 2 numbers, etc.)
• Internal storage encoding of characters (ISCII, ASCII, UNICODE)
• Microprocessor (fundamental concept, types, clock speed, address bus, data bus)
• Concept of the accumulator (instruction register and program counter)
• Types of memory (cache, RAM, Buffer, access time, ROM, etc.)
• Input-output connections/ports (monitor socket, universal serial bus port, audio/speaker socket, external storage devices connected using I/O ports, etc.)
• Power supply (elementary concept of power supply, switched-mode power supply [SMPS], SMPS supplies, etc.)
• Power conditioning devices (constant voltage transformer, voltage stabilizer, UPS offline and online)

Practical Exam Class 11 Computer Science Syllabus

Having the same duration of 3 hours and carrying 10 marks, the students will be required to develop and test one programming problem in C++ during the examination. Given below is the list of factors of assessments and the breakup of marks according to them.
