History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1877 as a public research university, The University of Manitoba is situated in Manitoba, Canada. It is Western Canada's first university with a main campus known as the Fort Garry campus, built in Winnipeg. Founded by Alexander Morris, this university has around 26K students enrolled in over 24 different faculties. This university was formed by the federation of three existing colleges and offered degrees only to those students who graduated from these colleges. In 1993/94, the U of M became the first university in Canada to offer a degree at the master’s level in Interior Design. In 1999, Smartpark, which is a 100-acre research and technology park at the Fort Garry Campus was launched by the university. The university has been consistently ranked by the top rankings released by QS World University Rankings, THE Ranking, The Guardian Ranking, US News and Report Ranking and CWUR Rankings.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Other than the main campus, the University of Manitoba also has two other campuses, namely, the Bannatyne Campus, and the William Norrie Center. The university is spread over 676 acres across three campuses. It has five colleges, namely St. Paul's College, St. Boniface, St. Andrew's College, and St. John's College, offering various different disciplines for the students to choose from. U of M offers programs across different disciplines. Some of the widely chosen faculties are Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, School of Art, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Social Work, to name a few. The university also has dedicated student services to assist students in every step of their university life. Moreover, this university offers numerous scholarships to the students to help them financially. These scholarships can be either based on a student's academics, or on his/her financial need. With a large budget that the university gets being a state-funded university, it manages its expenditure so as to give a memorable university life experience to its students in terms of academics, sports, or any other leisure activities..

Accomplishments and Alumni

The university has an employment rate of 83% and is known to be in one of the top choices for students. The University of Manitoba  is known for conferring the title of Distinguished Professor on academic staff members who have demonstrated outstanding distinction in research, scholarship, creative endeavors, professional service and teaching.It also has a list of distinguished alumni members. Some of the notable alumni include - Robert Kroetsch, who is a renowned poet and novelist.
