Essay on Gaganyaan

On 21st October, India achieved another great success by successfully testing the Gaganyaan Mission test flight from its Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR), Sriharikota. This was the second major achievement by our ISRO scientists who showed their deliberate hard work in completing this mission; the first being Chandrayaan-3. Now the first flight testing has been successful, ISRO will move ahead with its plan to send the first Indian crew into the Low Earth orbit with the Gaganyaan Mission. Let’s check out all the details about this space mission in our Essay on Gaganyaan listed below.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), successfully conducted the first Flight Testing of the Gaganyaan Mission, TV-D1, which reached an altitude of 17 km above sea level. Gaganyaan will be the first Indian crewed orbital mission which will formulate spacecraft for the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme.

Gaganyaan can carry a crew of three and has an upgraded version of the LVM3 rocket and docking capabilities. This will be a 3-day mission which will orbit the Earth at 400km altitude. Earlier, this mission was planned to be launched in 2021, but due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, ISRO had to postpone the plan.

On 21st October 2023, ISRO achieved another milestone by successfully testing the first test flight of the Gaganyaan Mission at 10 a.m. from its Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota. This test flight was named TV-D1, which proved that the Gaganyaan Mission will be a big success for ISRO and India in the near future.

Gaganyaan spacecraft will carry a crew of 3, which will be the first time ISRO will be sending Indian astronauts to outer space. This 3-day mission will carry the crew up to an altitude of 400km above sea level. The Crewed Module (CM) of this spacecraft is designed and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which is critical for human-centric systems. This module will have a crew healthcare system, parachutes for the safe recovery of both the module and the astronauts, radiation measurement and protection and a fire suppression system.

This test was part of the precursor missions which can demonstrate the preparedness levels of carrying a Human Space Flight mission into Space. Other tests are the Pad Abort Test (PAT), Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT) and Test Vehicle (TV) flights. Other important things about this mission are the Human-rated LVM3 and the Orbital Module (OM).

Essay on Gaganyaan in 300 Words

Congratulations to India for completing the testing of the TV-D1 flight on 21st October 2023. This was the first major step in achieving the objectives of the Gaganyaan Mission. Gaganyaan Mission will be the first of its series where the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will send a human crew into Low Earth orbit.

Gaganyaan is derived from the Sanskrit words gaggana and yana. Gaggana means ‘celestial’ and yana means ‘craft.’ Gaganyaan will mark the beginning of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme, through which Indian people will take a tour of outer space.

The Orbital Module (OM) used in this spacecraft was designed and developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). It’s an advanced version of the modules previously used by ISRO. It consists of a Crew Module (CM) and a Service Module (SM). Both these modules are equipped with state-of-the-art avionics systems ensuring the safety of the capsule and the crew.

Ensuring human safety was one of the main concerns when this spacecraft was being designed, as the mission will mark the beginning of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme. To achieve this goal, ISRO used the latest technology of Engineering and Human-centric systems.

For the training of the astronauts, the Astronaut Training Facility was established in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This training facility was equipped with fitness training, simulator training, and Flight suit training facilities. Apart from these things, it also covered academic courses, Parabolic Flights through which astronauts can familiarize themselves with micro-gravity, Gaganyaan Flight systems, recovery and survival training, Aeromedical training, and Crew training simulators.

Including this mission, ISRO has successfully launched 94 missions, out of which only 2 entered the re-entry category. This mission will enhance the growth of science and technology in India and inspire the youth towards the Space sector. Other agencies, industries, and departments associated with this mission will experience positive growth and help boost the economy of the country.
