The Gaganyaan mission was announced by the Prime Minister of India on Independence Day in 2018. This mission aimed to send three humans into space for three days. The mission successfully made its test flight for the crew escape module on 21 October 2023. ISRO HSFC (Human Space Flight Center) gets its new Chief on 31 May 2023. M Mohan became the Gaganyaan Project Director of India’s first human spaceflight mission. He took the post from Umamaheswaran R. on 31 May 2023. M Mohan came to handle this project with more than 30 years of experience in ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization). 

The current project director of Gaganyaan also served as the Associate Director at VSSC (Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre), and the Project Director of SRE (Space Capsule Recovery Experiment) which took place in 2007 as the precursor of human spaceflight.

Under the direction of M Mohan TV-D1 test flight was launched successfully.

Latest Update on Gaganyaan Mission Launch 2023

The ambitious Gaganyaan Mission of India was tied to an unsuccessful launch of the ISRO rocket. After 45 minutes, the rocket was launched again.

After a two-hour delay and some anxious moments when the TV-D1 engine initially failed to ignite, ISRO scientists finally managed to launch the rocket precisely 75 minutes later and accomplish the mission’s goal of Crew Module and Crew Escape separation, which was met with huge applause at the mission control centre.

Finally, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Test Vehicle that was launching payloads for the Gaganyaan human space mission project once more fired and the launch was finally successful. Here is a tweet where you can see ISRO Chairman S Somanath expressing his happiness ISRO rocket launch.

Who is the mission director of Gaganyaan?

Initially, Umamaheswaran R was leading the Gaganyaan mission, but on 31 May 2023 M Mohan became the mission director of Gaganyaan. The ISRO Human Space Flight Center will implement the first-ever crew spaceflight i.e. Gaganyaan. M Mohan is currently leading the project and the vehicle was successfully launched on 21 October 2023.
