The full form of NET JRF is the National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowship. It is conducted by the University Grants Commission(UGC) at a national level in India and is similar to other examinations such as CSIR NET, ICAR NET, and SET which are conducted by UGC for certain particular research opportunities in India. What is NET JRF?
NET JRF is an examination that is conducted to determine eligibility for the award of JRF. It is for postgraduate candidates who simultaneously qualify for NET as well as certain criteria that make them eligible for Research and not just a Professorship. JRF is a competitive fellowship program that is awarded to successful NET candidates.
What is the Eligibility Criteria for NET JRF?
The eligibility criteria for NET JRF are:
- A Master’s degree with an aggregate of 55%.
- 35 years for men and 45 years for women is the age limit.
- It is open for postgraduates who want to pursue research in the field of Humanities and Social Science.
- Must be an Indian national.

What is the Selection Process of NET JRF?
The UGC decides the qualifying criteria for NET JRF based on the merit list and the candidates are shortlisted based on their category-wise rank. The qualifiers are selected based on the number of opening positions for JRF which is allocated depending upon the Government of India’s reservation policy.

What is the Tenure and Stipend of NET JRF?
As per the 572nd UGC meeting held on the 20th of September, 2023. The tenure for NET JRF is 2 years with a stipend of Rs. 37,000 per month for the 2 years.
Examination Pattern of NET JRF
There will be two papers, namely Paper 1 and Paper 2, with a total of 150 questions.
- Paper 1 will have 50 questions for a duration of 1 hour for 100 marks.
- Paper 2 will have 100 questions for a duration of 2 hours for 200 marks.
- There will be 2 marks awarded for every correct answer and no negative marks will be given for an incorrect answer.
