India Railways National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI) in Vadodara has recently launched new academic programs, including B.Tech, MBA and some MSc. programs. In all, the Ministry of Indian Railways launches 2 B.Tech programs (UG), 2 MBA programs (PG) and 3 MSc. programs (PG)  in the field of railways and transportation management. A total of 7 new programs have been launched with the existing 2 programs. Details of New Academic Programs Launched by Indian Railways

The key features of the new academic programs launched by Indian Railway at NRTI are:

B.Tech. in Rail Infrastructure Engineering 4 years This is a four-year program to develop the knowledge and skills required to design and develop rail infrastructure. The key focus area of this newly launched program is vehicle systems design, safety and reliability, Geotech, bridge design, railway electrification, and HVAC systems for railways.
B.Tech. in Rail Systems & Communication Engineering4 years The program aims to develop appropriate knowledge and skills in the area of rail systems and communication technologies. Key areas of focus are computer networking and management, passenger information systems, rail control system engineering, mobile communication, big data and data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
MBA in Transportation Management2 years The program aims at developing skills in the design, supervision and organization of transportation systems with an emphasis on future sustainability. Management of transport systems investment, design of multimodal transport models, the environmental impact of transport systems, traffic management and control, Intelligent transport systems are the main areas of interest for the programme.
MBA in Supply Chain Management2 years The program focuses on the development of core management and analytical competencies for integration, Designing, coordinating supply chains at multiple levels to improve the competitiveness of companies through dynamic and innovative solutions. The main areas of interest for this course are logistics and storage systems, freight transportation, supply chain strategy and revenue management.
MSc in Railway Systems Engineering & Integration2 years This is an international degree program offered in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, UK. The program intends to acquire railway engineering skills and knowledge, systems integration skills, and an understanding of complex sub-system interactions.
MSc in Transport Technology and Policy2 years The program tackles the major challenges of integrating transport technology and policy measures necessary for the country’s sustainable economic development. The main areas of interest of this program include transport finance, issues of integration of behaviour and policies in transport planning, urban planning models, information policy and multimodal transport.
MSc in Transport Information Systems and Analytics2 years The program aims to develop core knowledge in information systems, data science and analysis in the context of rail transportation. The main areas of focus of the program include data models and decisions, information policy, big data and network theory for developing an interdisciplinary perspective.

Vision Behind the Launch of New Academic Programs By Indian Railways

The Chairman & CEO, Railway Board, Shri V.K.Yadav claims that these newly launched academic programs by Indian Railway’s NRTI are highly interdisciplinary and application-oriented and are not yet being offered by any other Institute in India and thus, unique in its contents. The Indian Railway has launched these new academic programs with a new approach to the research of transport systems which brings together academics, scientists and engineers from various backgrounds, and plans to leverage its partnerships and collaboration with academics and industry. These newly launched programs also seek to develop a core set of values that are dedicated to nation-building, commitment to innovation and academic excellence, compassion for people and society, and responsibility for the environment. 

The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI) was set up in 2018 in Vadodara, Gujarat. It emphasizes on transportation-related education. The institute offers UG and PG courses. Applicants are required to write an entrance exam, which is conducted by the NRTI itself. The selection is made only based on the grades or scores obtained in the entrance examination.

  • Register there using a valid Email Id and/or your mobile number
  • Log in using the login credentials provided to fill in the form
  • Fill in the form with all correct information that has been asked
  • Upload all the required scanned documents that have been asked
  • Submit and take a print out of the same for future requirement
