History of Republic Day
In 1934, MN Roy, a nationalist leader, was the first person who gave the idea of an Indian Constituent Assembly, which can help in framing the Consitution of India according to the needs of its people. There is another reason for the Importance of the 26th January, the “India Government Act” was withdrawn and the newly constituted Constitution of India was implemented on this day. The constitution was ready on 26th November 1949, but its promulgation was deferred to coincide with 26th January 1950. On 26th January 1930, the All India Congress Committee at its Lahore Session held under the presidentship of Lt. Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru pledged that India’s aim was “Purna Swaraj” which is complete independence from British rule. Republic Day reminds us of the sacrifices made by many brave-hearted Indians to realize their pledge of complete independence from British rule.
