The Full Form of GSI is the Geological Survey of India. Under the Ministry of Mines, GSI is a scientific Government of India agency founded on the 4th of March, 1851 with its headquarters in Kolkata, West Bengal. In the world, GSI is also one of the oldest organizations and the second oldest survey in India. Furthermore, GSI is the primary source of fundamental earth science data for the government, industries, as well as the public. The GSI actively engages as an official participant in key sectors such as coal, steel, metals, power, cement, and international geoscientific conferences. The other regional offices are in Lucknow, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Nagpur, and Shillong. The current executive is Shri Janardan Prasad.
