The full form of BEL is Bharat Electronics Limited. BEL is a Government of India-owned defense and aerospace electronics company. Currently, its headquarters are located in Banglore. It mainly manufactures advanced electronic products for aerospace and ground applications. Under the Ministry of Defence of India, BEL is one of the 16 Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) which has been granted the Navratna status by the Government of India.
History of BEL
- In 1954, BEL was founded in Bangalore, Karnataka.
- In 1956, BEL started manufacturing communication equipment and then receiving valves, and germanium semiconductors.
- In 1964, with the help of the Soviet Union for AIR, they manufactured radio transmitters.
- Later on, they manufactured a range of consumer electronics such as radios and TVs.
- Through the years, BEL extended its operations to include the development and design of a wide range of aerospace and defense equipment. As of this day, BEL is involved in the production of electronic warfare systems, radar systems, communication systems, and avionics among a variety of products.
- Furthermore, BEL has also dived into areas like railway signaling systems and solar power.
