Running for a period of 1 year, the flagship leadership programme is open for in-house or students who are pursuing an MBA from top business schools of India. About TAS Programme

TAS is the premier leadership development programme of the Tata Group created by the famous JRD Tata in 1956. TAS Programme Pathways

There are three pathways to a career at TAS. 

  1. TAS- campus and in-house
  2. Invictas- a business simulation competition
  3. The Tata Business Leadership Awards – a business case competition

Note: TAS recruitment often occurs in the second part of a calendar year.

TAS Eligibility Criteria

The Tata Group started this leadership program to create an exclusive group of managers within the company and provide a rich platform for the raw talents to reach their full potential. For this, candidates are either selected in-house or through campus recruitments in some of the top business schools in India [MBA graduates]. So, if you are looking for the answer of “How do I get into TAS?” then, here is the eligibility criteria for TAS program. 

TAS In-House 

There are some set criteria which the conglomerate assesses before accepting an in-office employee for the programme. These parameters are:

  • Candidates have to be permanent employees of the Tata Group of Companies and Tata Joint Venture companies. This doesn’t include employees on JV partner payroll.
  • The candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of continuous service in the group. 
  • All management trainees/ graduate engineer trainees/ employees of other structured group programmes that have joined the conglomerate on or before 15 September 2018 will be eligible for TAS In-house 2020.
  • Candidates should not have more than 6 years of total work experience after the bachelor’s degree. IN this also, one should have spent at least two years in continuous service in the TATA group on a permanent basis.
  • For the ascertainment of remaining work experience; full-time, permanent, part-time, temporary, retainer assignments/employment will also be considered. Short-term project internships will not be counted in years of experience.
  • Candidates should have a valid GMAT score taken a maximum of 3 years prior to joining the TAS programme. The GRE score is not valid.

Campus Recruitment

For the TAS program, the TATA group recruits candidates from only a handful of B-Schools in India. Only those who are in their final year of the MBA program or its equivalent are considered eligible. Furthermore, there is no work-experience and GMAT score required. Enlisted are the colleges from which candidates are hired for TAS program:

Other than the leadership programme, the TATA group also conducts a 2-month long summer internship for the first-year students from the aforementioned colleges. They have to clear a group-discussion and a personal interview round in order to qualify for the coveted internship.

How to Apply for TAS?

For the in-house applications, candidates are required to register at the official website with the correct GMAT score. More than 1 entry would not be entertained and the person would be disqualified. Currently, there is no age limit specified. On the other hand, for campus recruitments, the students have to write essays and an SOP. Usually, the selection procedure involves a team competition and whichever team wins has to compete at the national level.

TAS Selection Procedure

When it comes to the selection process of the TAS program then you must know that there are 4 stages for selection namely, Group Discussion, Presentation Round, Psychometric Interview, and Face-to-face interview. 

Group Discussion

Also known as the Chairman’s GD round, in this first step of the TAS selection process, a group of ten candidates is present where each are given one case at a time. Candidates are required to present the case to the group and lead the discussion.

Presentation Round

The shortlisted candidates present a case-study for 30 minutes that also includes questions. The case studies for this phase of the TAS selection process are given to them earlier. 

Psychometric Interview Round

Here, scores of HR-based questions like that on biggest achievements, challenges encountered, etc. are asked form the applicants to assess determinants of personality. There is no elimination in this round of the TAS selection process.  This is all just to analyze the thought process of the candidate and what are the personal things one can share.

Face-to-Face Interview

All the candidates shortlisted in the previous round are called for an interview in Mumbai which is conducted by 2 senior executives of TATA. Enlisted are some of the topics on which questions can be asked in the final stage of the TAS selection procedure:  

  • General Affairs or Current Affairs about India and World.
  • Politics, Political Scams, etc
  • Theoretical questions like What is Leadership? What will you gain after the programme?
  • Where do you see yourself working after the programme, which TATA Group company?

TATA Business Leadership Awards [TBLA]

Started in 2002, TBLA is bestowed on a group of TATA employees who are able to solve theme-based, real-time issues pertaining to the business sector. Every year, a new theme is selected through which, business acumen and creative thinking ability of the team members is assessed. Rs. 5,00,000 is awarded to the team which stands first. InvicTAS Programme: Game For More

TAS – Tata Group’s Flagship Leadership programme InvicTAS is an entertaining game of simulation for business managers. The InvicTAS programme gives participants the opportunity to operate their own firm in a simulated business setting. They will act as managers, and thus comprehend the links between many departments and conduct business choices in the areas of Sales & Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, Human Resources, etc. Participants will show their business excellence and leadership abilities and compete with competing businesses in shifting markets across financial years. TAS Salary

TAS also provides a great chance for high beginning pay. In 2012, TAS scored high in its recipient ranking, one of the determining factors for pay, according to the 2012 InsideIIM poll. Tata employees make an average of INR 22 lakhs, primarily between 15 to 26 lakhs per year, based upon 9 profiles. Their employees earn an average of INR 25 lakhs per year.
