After surrounding coorg on 10th April, the East India Company annexed coorg on May 7th.

1849 – Founding on Bethune College, Kolkata
The oldest college in India for women, Bethune college was founded on this day by John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune. 

1958 – Acharya Kriplani
On this day, Acharya Kriplani was elected as the leader of the opposition in Parliament.

1973 – Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh

On this day, the council of Europe was founded in the Hague conference.

1986 – Patrick Morrow
Canadian Prime minister Patrick Morrow became the first ever t person to climb each of the Seven Summits. 

1992 – the space shuttle program
Its first ever endeavour, STS- 49 was launched was launched by the space shuttle endeavour.

After being stolen from the National Gallery of Norway in February, Edward Munch’s Scream was recovered undamaged.

2002 –  China Northern Airlines MD-82 
In a very tragic incident the  China Northern Airlines MD-82 plunged into the yellow sea, killing 112 people.
