Exam Dates 2021
From 31st October 2020, GRE Exam dates are available seven days a week. For GRE General Tests 2021, tests are available round the clock, seven days a week, with appointments as recent as 24 hours after you register. It is advised to book a slot for the exam at least 3 months before your university application deadline.
GRE Test Center Covid – 19 Update
With the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, ETS has started offering the “test at-home” option for those who can’t visit the GRE test centres due to partial or complete lockdown. Here are some points which you must know about this.
- The GRE pattern and format will remain the same.
- You can take the test on your own computer and it will be monitored by a human proctor through ProctorU.
- The service was available till 30th June 2020 and is further extended.
- You can appear round the clock, seven days a week
- This option is not available for Iran and Mainland China.
GRE Test Centre Registration
GRE test centres aren’t allotted. Applicants have a choice of filling up two GRE Test Centres choices & from among that two choices, an Exam center is allotted to each applicant. If you want to register for GRE Test centres here is a step-wise process.
- Visit the official website& log in to your account. (New applicants have to register & create their account)
- If there is any new information you want to add to your application/profile that will help in the admission you can also add that information.
- Applicants then have to choose the GRE exam date/ GRE test centers that most convenient.
- You will be redirected to the new page for test fee submission. After submitting the fees your GRE test center registration is over.
- Take two printouts for future reference.
Changing GRE Test Center
GRE allows you to change your test centre location but the change of location is not guaranteed & you will be charged also. GRE books seats at the test centre on a first come first basis, only if the seat is available on the test centre you want to only then your test centre location will be changed. Here are the steps to change your test center location.
- Login to your GRE account on the official website.
- Go to the test center tab.
- Select the option of change the test center.
- Select the test center you want to switch to.
- You will receive an email after a while conforming to the test center based on the availability.

Documents Required
On the day of your GRE test, all applicants are required to carry some mandatory documents without which no applicant is allowed to enter the GRE exam centre. Here is the list of required documents:
- Carry original documents. Photocopies or E-documents are not acceptable.
- An identification card issued by the government of India.
- Recent passport size photograph
- Make sure you carry the ID card that matches the First & Last Name on your GRE registration form.
Verification Process
All GRE exam centers have to follow the protocols & norms stated by the official authority. Verification of the applicants appearing for the exam is one of the important protocols. Here are the things that are used for verification at GRE test centres:

GRE Test Centers Rules
Here are some basic rules of GRE test centers that every applicant should follow & these norms are followed at every GRE test center. Here are all the norms:
- All applicants must reach the GRE test center at least one hour before the time.
- No applicant is allowed to leave before four & a half hours.
- Rough paper provided at GRE exam centers should not be used during breaks or before the examination
- All GRE test centers will record the activities at the center.
- Applicants can use a calculator on the system & no allowed to carry any other electronic device or calculators.
- Other than the mandatory documents & no other item is allowed at GRE test centers.

Not all GRE test centers have facilities for disabled applicants. Applicants must ensure the test center of their preference provides the facilities. GRE test centers for disability accommodation include extra time for completing the exam, extra break time, screen reader, option to select colors, etc.
