Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a popular exam amongst those who aspire to study a master’s or PhD programme mainly in the US. Conducted by the Educational Testing Services (ETS), the GRE is also considered one of the toughest exams in the world. Apart from Analytical Reasoning, it assesses an applicant’s Analytical Writing, Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning. Since the exam is available in both offline and online modes, candidates often get confused about the registration process. GRE Registration: Step-By-Step Process

STEP 1: Log in to the official website of GRE (ets.org) and create an account. For those who already have an account, sign into it.

STEP 2: Enter all your educational and personal details carefully. Make sure to enter the correct contact details.

STEP 3: Upon completing the above-mentioned GRE registration steps, select the preferred date and test center for your GRE as per your convenience.

STEP 4: Once you have completed all the steps, you will be directed to the fee payment page. Before you pay the fee of USD 213 make sure that you verify the details again. If the transaction is made once, you shall have to pay again for changes in your application form. 

STEP 5: After the payment is done, you can save the confirmation message and take a print of the fee receipt for future reference.

Other Methods For GRE Registration 

Other than the online GRE registration method, you can also register through phone, fax, and mail. Following are the details of each method. 

Phone Registration

You can make a call to the Regional Registration Centre for GRE and book your slot. Candidates are advised to register on time as there is no ‘on the spot’ or ‘on the day registration’ available. 

Mail Registration 

If you wish to register through this method, you have to take a print of the filled application form and send it to the main office at Gurugram, Haryana with the registration fee. Make sure that your application reaches at least 3-4 weeks before the preferred date. Once your GRE registration is complete, you will receive an email with the exact date and time. 

Fax Registration 

Fill up the application form online and take a print of it. Fax it to the main office in Gurugram, Haryana. If you wish to appear on your preferred date, do not forget to send the application at least 7 days before. 

How to Reschedule GRE?

An applicant can appear 5 times in 12 months with a gap of 21 days between every attempt for the GRE exam. If you are not able to appear on the chosen date due to some reason, you can easily reschedule GRE. However, the date should be changed at least 4 days prior to the test otherwise your application fees will be forfeited. For instance, if you are appearing for the 16th of a month, you must reschedule it by the 12th of the same month. For this procedure, you will have to pay an amount of USD 50.

GRE is not held on fixed dates, thus, candidates have the liberty to choose it as per their convenience. Judiciously select the date for your exam after completing the GRE registration, keeping in mind the gap between the application process of your university and the test date. It is highly recommended to have a gap of at least 2-3 months before you appear for the exam. With careful planning, you can also re-appear for the test if you are not satisfied with your scores in the first attempt.
