History, Affiliations, and Rankings

The four institutions that form Saskatchewan Polytechnic were established as four individual institutions. The Moose Jaw campus was set up as the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in 1959. Saskatoon was set up as Central Saskatchewan Technical Institute in 1963. Regina was set up as the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1972, while Prince Albert was set up as the Northern Institute of Technology in 1986. In 1988, the Institute and the Regional Colleges Act combined Saskatchewan's technical schools, urban community institutes, and the Advanced Technology Training Centre to set up the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST). The school was changed to Saskatchewan Polytechnic on September 24, 2014. As a Polytechnic, Saskatchewan holds several academic and industry partnerships such as with Polytechnics Canada, University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, First Nations University of Canada and more. The Institute’s Engineering courses have been nationally accredited through Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC), whose aim is to partner with institutions or schools to make sure students receive a high-quality education that meets the requirements of the employers.
