New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) commenced on February 9, 1885, and was established under the influence of an act that was introduced in the year 1880 and received sponsorship by The Newark Board of Trade. The university, which started with only 88 students, went on to become a centre of excellent educational institutions in the coming years.

The academic programs are fully accredited by the appropriate accrediting boards, commissions and associations such as the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA), Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). NJIT is affiliated with Sea-Grant, Space Grant and CHEN. Times Higher Education ranks NJIT at #501-600 in its World University Rankings 2022, #201-300 in Impact Rankings 2021 and #177 in US College Rankings 2022.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

NJIT is located in the vibrant University Heights district of downtown Newark, just 20 minutes from Manhattan by train. The university is constructed in the largest city of New Jersey, Newark and the infrastructure is sprawling and breathtaking NJIT offers 126-degree programs through six professional schools and colleges.

The location of the college is well suited for everyone and marks its proximity to NYC. The university doesn't compromise with a student's comfort and entertainment. The residential and dining facilities are splendid along with an indoor track, a large basketball arena, various locker rooms, a swimming pool, a fitness centre and medical facilities. At the present, the university offers around 50 undergraduate courses and 60 graduate degree programs. Accomplishments and Alumni 

NJIT's annual economic impact on the State of New Jersey is $2.8 Billion. It also earns the Highest Research Rating (R1) according to Carnegie Classification. It also had a total research expenditure of $161 Million in FY2019. Moreover, it has received the Excellence in Research Prize and Medal, awarded in recognition of a sustained record of contributions that have enhanced the reputation of NJIT. NJIT has the largest college of engineering, computing, architecture, and design, and is home to the largest technology and life science business incubator in the state. The university has approximate 50,000 alumni which include Ian G. Durand, Nicholas M. DeNichilo, Arthur E. Hahn, Jr. and Kevin F. Gallagher among many others.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

New Jersey Institute of Technology is culturally diverse. More than 1,900 international students from over 70 different countries are enrolled at NJIT. It ranks #1 in New Jersey for awarding Engineering degrees to African-American and Hispanic students. To promote inter-cultural interactions on the campus, students are offered plenty of opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities through more than 140 clubs and organizations.
