History, Affiliations and Rankings
The Marist College was founded in 1905 as a seminary for training men to carry forward the legacy of the Marist Brothers as renowned educators. Classes were held on a small property called the St. Ann's Hermitage. The estate was later expanded and it was in 1929 that the Marian College first began to offer College-level programs. The State of New York granted a four-year charter to the College in 1946, following which, the Marian College became the Marist College in 1960. In 1966, the first women students were admitted to the evening division and two years later, the College became fully co-educational with women students enrolling in the day division. Since its establishment, Marist College has become one of the globally leading Liberal Arts and Sciences Colleges that is committed to excellence in education and service to community. The College is academically affiliated with the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). Also, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Accreditation System has granted Marist College accreditation under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards. According to US News and World Report 2022 rankings, Marist College ranks #10 in the Regional Universities North category.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

At Marist, students can discover their interests through 90+ academic programs offered across 7 Schools of specialization. These are - Communication and the Arts, Computer Science and Mathematics, Liberal Arts, Management, Science, Behavioral and Social Sciences and a School of Professional Programs. Courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels are offered, including 5-year dual degree programs, certificate courses, and Doctoral program in Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant programs. The College also has a study abroad division called Marist Abroad that offers over 75 study abroad options across 6 continents, where students can spend a few weeks to a full academic year as part of their studies. Marist also offers online programs, which include an online MBA, MPA, Master of Arts and a Master of Science degree in Information Systems.

Marist is one of the nation's best institutions for undergraduate education, according to the Princeton Review. The Princeton Review recognized Marist for its leadership development, internship opportunities, campus work opportunities, such as the Marist Poll, and career development resources. The same publication names Marist College among the Top 50 Colleges that Create Futures by "going beyond the classroom." The College has also been featured in Kiplinger's Personal Finance's list of the country's 'Best Values in Private Colleges' for the eleventh year in a row. Further, Forbes Magazine ranks Marist on its list of 'America's Top Colleges'. Marist's online MBA program was ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Online Education Program” rankings for 2019. Marist College has approximately 30,000 alumni living worldwide. Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Marist College has a total student enrollment of 6,657 students, out of which 5,037 are Undergraduates and 958 are full-and part-time Graduate students. 58% of the total student population comprise female students, making the College gender diverse. There are a total of 80+ clubs and organizations for the students to explore and enrich their college experience. In the athletic department only, there are 23 intercollegiate varsity sports teams, 11 club teams and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference - MAAC are held. Marist College is extensively committed to foster a sense of community on the campus through a range of activities, from trips to Broadway shows or volunteering at an elementary school and more.
