A Student Visa for Cyprus is only given to non-EU students who want to study in the country. The requirements for the student visa are as follows:
- Duly signed visa application form
- Passport with a minimum validity of 1 year starting from the arrival date in Cyprus
- 4 passport-size photographs, and a letter of acceptance from an educational institution in Cyprus
- Previous academic qualifications with copies translated into English
- Proof of sufficient funds to study in Cyprus. A certificate of sponsorship is also acceptable
- Police clearance certificate issued within the last 6 months
- A bank guarantee issued by the sponsor’s bank within the last 6 months
- Health insurance for travelling abroad
- Any other document required by the educational institution
After entering Cyprus, the applicant must also submit the following documents
- Health insurance from Cyprus for the course duration
- Medical tests for hepatitis B and C, chest X-rays, HIV, and Syphilis. All these tests are conducted to ensure that you are not suffering from TB.

Application Process for Cyprus Student Visa
The first step to getting a student visa for Cyprus is to apply to an educational institution in Cyprus. The university will make arrangements for you to apply for the visa. There are 2 ways a Cyprus student visa can be obtained. Either apply yourself through the Cyprus diplomatic mission in your country (Embassy/Consulate) or decide to send documents to the university and the university will apply for the visa on our behalf.
Application Process for a Cyprus Diplomatic Mission
To apply for the Cyprus Diploma you can follow the steps below.
- Arrange the necessary documents and send them documents to the school. Some of the important documents are a completed visa application form, photograph, copy of academic qualification, proof of English language proficiency, and copy of passport.
- Next, the university/college will arrange an interview appointment
- You can attend the interview and submit documents
- When the visa is approved you can collect the required documents and travel to Cyprus
Application Process through the Migration Department in Cyprus
The student visa for Cyprus can be applied through the Migration Department in Cyprus. The application process for the same is as follows.
- Send the essential documents to the school
- The University or college will apply on your behalf to the Migration Department in Cyprus.
- When the visa application is approved the university will send the visa document copy. After that, you can travel to Cyprus to continue your education.

Working with a Student Visa for Cyprus
Generally, international students from non-EU countries are not permitted to work during the course. In exceptional cases, exceptions are made. The Government of the Republic of Cyprus grants those exceptions. For example, if you are enrolling in a course that requires you to complete training then working may be permitted during summer vacations. EU nationals and citizens of certain countries do not require a visa. For example, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Iceland. However, even the EU students require a temporary residence permit or a Registration Certificate for EU Nationals”. That is if the course is longer than 3 months.

Renewal of Student Resident Permit
The Cyprus student visa can be renewed. However, the application for the same must be submitted at least 1 month before the expiry date of the current visa. The application for the visa renewal can be submitted to the Migration Department. The following documents are needed for the renewal of the student residence permit:
- Application form for a temporary residence permit
- A passport copy and a copy of the letter of resignation from the college or university
- Academic transcripts for all the semesters
- Accommodation proof
- Proof of sufficient funds and proof of health insurance

The Cyprus student visa success rate is approximately 100% for international students. Students can even apply for a Cyprus student visa without IELTS. IELTS is not needed if a student is enrolling in an English language course in Cyrpus.
Is it Possible to Visit Other Countries on a Cyprus student visa?
No. It is not possible to visit other countries on a Cyprus student visa. Cyprus is not a part of the Schengen agreement. Therefore, those holding a student visa for Cypurs cannot enter the Schengen Zone. However, it is possible to visit a few countries such as Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria (other EU countries) that are scheduled to join the Schengen zone.

The minimum bank balance needed for a Cyprus student visa is approximately around €7,000 to €12,000 per year. The amount is supposed to cover the accommodation expenses, living expenses, and additional costs.
International students cannot directly obtain a PR after course completion (unless they are dependents of a PR resident). To get a Cypurs PR you need to complete at least 5 years of legal stay in the country on a residence permit.
Generally, IELTS is a compulsory requirement to study abroad. However, in Cyprus clearing the IELTS examination is not mandatory.
