The full form of UPS is Uninterruptible Power Supply. As the name suggests, it refers to a type of power supply system that comes with an integrated battery which is used during the absence of the primary source of power. In other words, a UPS can keep your computer system operating for a few more minutes if the electricity goes out. This gives users enough time to save all the crucial documents and prevent them from being destroyed.

The first UPS was invented by John Hanley in 1934. As mentioned earlier, UPS or uninterruptible power supplies are used to provide a backup power supply in case of grid power failure. Types of UPS Systems

There are two types of UPS systems which are Online UPS and Standby power supply. Here is what you need to know about them.

  • Online UPS: In simple words, Online UPS is a source of continuous power supply that provides power from its inverter. Although it offers optimum performance, an online UPS is more expensive than a standby UPS. Moreover, it also consists of a cooling fan that often creates noise for the user. 
  • Standby Power Supply: Standby Power Supply is also known as offline UPS. Once the electricity becomes unable, it instantly turns into a battery within a few seconds. It is more commonly used in office supply stores.
