Mahari Choriya ke Chhoro Se Kam Hai! Making the nation and her esteemed father proud again, the Indian wrestler, Vinesh Phogat won Gold in the Ukrainian Wrestling Tournament. She outshined in the Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestler and Coaches Memorial Tournament defeating the 2017 world champion Vanesa Kaladzinskaya and made her mark on the mat after the Coronavirus break.
Globally recognised as an Asian Games champion and belonging to the state of Haryana, the 26-year-old played under the 53 Kg freestyle and beat the European bronze medalist by 10-8. This was Vinesh’s (@vineshphogat) first international tournament for the year 2021 in which her moves in the closing bout of the match emerged as the signs of her victory.
An Intriguing Fight against Kaladzinskay
Up against the world’s #7, Vinesh opened the match with a 4-0 lead in the 53 kg final as she initiated a left leg attack. Soon after, Kaladzinskaya made it 4-4 with her on-point moves. Vinesh gained back the hold on the match and took a lead of 6-4 before the 10 seconds break.
The Belarusian created her pressure on Vinesh as she threw another 4 point move. The last 25 seconds of the match was no less than a dramatic Bollywood climax, Vinesh made that four-point move and got a lead of 10-8 by adding the glory of a gold medal for the nation under her name.
Thus, Vinesh Phogat kickstarted the year on the best note by winning the gold medal in her first championship of the year!
