Early Life and Education
The furious cricketer Shubman Gill was born in a Sindhi family in Fazilka, Punjab. He belonged to an agricultural background. His father, Lakhwinder Singh Gill, a farmer, always had a dream of serving the country as a profound cricketer, which due to some reasons, remained unfulfilled. Alternatively, he decided to make Shubman Gill a skilful and humble cricketer. His father’s love for cricket made him notice Gill’s ability to shine bright as a cricketer at an early age, thus creating an opportunity to enhance Shubman’s cricketing capacity. Due to this reason, Gill, along with his supporting family, shifted to Mohali and rented a house near the famous ‘PCA Stadium.’
At the age of 3, when children are usually attracted to toys, Shubman Gill, a guy with passion, took up a dream to become a famous cricketer. In the U-16 division, he scored an unbeaten double century in the famous ‘Vijay Merchant Trophy’ for Punjab with his balanced and compelling performance. Additionally, Gill scored 351 runs in Punjab’s Inter-District Competition under 16 categories in 2014. He completed his education from Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali, Punjab, and since then has been a follower of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.
Career
Shubman Gill has had an extraordinary career. In such a short time, he has already achieved much more than many cricketers. Gill’s domestic cricket career as list-A began against Vidarbha on 25 February 2017. In November 2017, he made his Ranji Trophy debut, playing for Punjab. He scored a half-century in this first match, and an astonishing 129 against began in the second match. Shubman Gill made his maiden double century against Tamil Nadu in the 2018 Ranji trophy.
A big turning point in Shubman Gill’s career was the U-19 world cup. Merely at the age of 17, Gill smashed two back-to-back classy centuries. He played exceptionally well with over 372 runs from five innings and finished second in the ranking. The best innings came in the semi-final when Shubman scored a century. His marvellous performance played a crucial role in helping India lift the U19 world cup for a record fourth time. The IPL teams took note of Gill’s skills, and in 2018, Kolkata knight riders bought him for a whopping Rs. 1.8 crore. In his IPL career of 27 IPL matches, Shubman Gill 499 runs with an average of 33.23. He has a top score of 76 and four half-centuries against his name. This youngster is still finding a breakthrough, and the coming season could be groundbreaking for him. In 2019, he led the Indian team as captain for the Duleep trophy. Gill has always played big matches for the Indian team and recently opened in the test series against Australia.
On 31 January 2019, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against New Zealand in the series’ fourth ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Trent Boult snatched Gill after he could only conjure 9 runs in his 21-ball vigil at the crease.
Captaincy
“Captaincy is more off the field than on it.” Shubman Gill, a hardworking cricketer, has always given his best efforts for his team, which led him to the post of Vice-Captain of the under-19 World Cup team in 2017. Gill’s round personality helped the team to climb the ladder of success.
In October 2016, Gill was selected as the Indian C team captain for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy. In the same year, he was announced as the youngest cricketer to lead a tournament.

Shubman set a record in his rookie series by scoring 330 runs in five matches. In an Under-16 Punjab state level encounter, he scored more than 200 runs. When he competed in the District level Under16 Punjab cricket tournament, he scored 351 runs. He has the world record for longest opening partnership (587 runs).
