Scope of Philosophy

Metaphysics

Metaphysics has always been a hot topic in intellectual circles. It explains the nature of being and the universe. It has two distinct research areas namely – cosmology and ontology. Cosmology is concerned with the study of the universe’s evolution, origins, and ultimate fate, as well as the principles that preserve it in perfect order. Whereas, ontology studies the numerous kinds of things that exist and also about their interactions.

Axiology

Axiology, often known as value theory, investigates the nature of value and its metaphysical dimensions. Worth Theory is also known as Axiology, and it is a discipline of philosophy that studies the value of goodness. Simply defined, axiology examines the concept of value in philosophical terms and debates concerns concerning nature and what is truly valued.

Epistemology

Epistemology is another important aspect of philosophy. This phrase comes from the Greek word ‘episteme,’ which means ‘knowledge, ‘while the other half of the word ‘logy’ means ‘study of.’ It is essentially a study of knowledge. What information do we have? What is knowledge? This is a major question in epistemology. Also, the question of whether knowledge can ever be absolute is often raised along with the limit to how much people can know. How can we determine if we are living in a simulation world? These are some of the most asked questions. Epistemology is the study of knowledge.

Ethics

Everyone tries to act according to established ethical standards in their daily lives. This philosophical concept has many uses in a person’s real life. For example, some organizations have established ethics committees that establish employee codes of conduct. Ethics deals with the definition of right and wrong. It describes a school of thought that teaches us how to act in certain situations that are always controversial among philosophers. And every philosopher defines it according to his or her own subjective understanding.

Aesthetics

Aesthetics is a discipline of philosophy concerned with the nature of beauty and taste, as well as art philosophy (its own area of philosophy that comes out of aesthetics). It investigates aesthetic values that are usually conveyed through taste evaluations.

Logic

The study of the laws of thought, right reasoning, valid inference, or logical truth is commonly referred to as logic. It is a formal science that studies how conclusions follow from premises in a topic-neutral way, i.e. regardless of the specific subject matter under consideration.

Political Philosophy

The word ‘political philosophy’ is frequently used in a colloquial meaning to refer to a broad view of politics, or a certain ethic, belief, or attitude regarding politics that does not necessarily belong to the technical study of philosophy. It is the study of fundamental questions about government, state, law, rights, justice, politics, property, liberty, etc.
