IISc Bangalore Offers Free Course on IoT

IISC Bangalore is all set to offer a free course on IoT this coming July 2021. Indian Institute of Science has invited applications for a free online course on Design for the Internet of Things (IoT)  for students looking for an outline of IoTs and the design of smart objects that provide collaboration and universal services. The course is being offered for free on the NPTEL platform of SWAYAM and will be conducted from 26 July to 17 September 2021. Gradually, the system design will be introduced and small video clips will be provided that will allow students to prototype and will be displayed as part of the course.

Eligibility Criteria

While the course is open to all participants who wish to learn about the technology but it would be most beneficial for the students in the following streams:

  • Electrical Engineering.
  • Electronics and Communications Engineering
  • Control and Instrumentation engineering.

What Will be Covered in the Course?

IISC Bangalore’s free course on IoT is ideal for candidates studying Electrical engineering and similar programmes. Students who will enrol themselves in the course will be able to make the correct choice of hardware and software for the proposed application of design for the Internet of Things.

  • Introduction to IoT: Definition, applications, challenges etc.
  • Addressing the power challenge: RFID, energy harvesting and power management systems.
  • Low power wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi.
  • Low power wire area technologies
  • System design for low power
  • Sensors and actuators: Temperature sensor and Solenoid valves.
  • Power management algorithms.
  • IoT protocols

How to Apply for the IISc Free Online Course on the IoT?

Interested applicants will have to enroll for the course on the NPTEL platform by clicking on the Join button on the official page before 2 August 2021. As the course is free to enroll and learn from,those who want a certificate will have to register and give an exam conducted by NPTEL in person at any of the exam centres by paying RS 1000.
