ETS recently introduced the TOEFL®Essentials™ test, a new English-language proficiency test that promises versatility, affordability and accessibility to students and institutions for admissions to various colleges across the globe. This launch by ETS is a new addition to TOEFL. After the TOEFL iBT® test, the TOEFL Essentials test is the second high-stakes English-language proficiency test within the TOEFL® Family of Assessments. Registration will open to test takers on Thursday, June 17 for administrations beginning on Saturday, August 21.
It is a 90-minutes test designed to measure four skills essential for communication (listening, reading, speaking and writing) in both academic contexts such as university admissions and other high-stakes decisions and non-academic contexts, such as in interviews and internships.
In addition, the test provides institutions with expanded insights through writing and speaking samples and a unique Personal Video Statement — a 5-minute personal video statement to “allow test takers to showcase their personalities to universities”.
