Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam is a standardised computer-based test, conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and various institutes under IITs (Indian Institute of Engineering) on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE. GATE Eligibility Criteria
To appear in the GATE Exam, the application process can be carried out online. But before getting to the registration process, it is important to ensure that you are fulfilling the GATE eligibility requirements. The following sections explain the prerequisites that have been specified for the test:
General Eligibility Requirements
Given below are the GATE eligibility requirements which every aspirant needs to satisfy before applying for this exam:
- The candidates of Indian nationality as well as from other countries other than India are eligible to apply for the GATE exam.
- There is no age bar or restriction under the specified GATE eligibility.
- The candidate must have completed graduation in Engineering/Technology or Master’s degree in an equivalent field of science.
- Those students who are in the final year of graduation (engineering/technology) can also apply for the GATE Exam, but they must have to submit a provisional certificate from their institute’s principal.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2020: Paper Wise
Since the GATE exam comprises of different papers for students from varied science backgrounds, the requirements for each paper are distinctive. To help you further in your research, we have elaborated the GATE eligibility prerequisites for different papers below:
B.Tech/B.E./B.Pharm.
The candidate must have completed a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology or a 3-year BSc/ Diploma in Engineering/Technology along with senior higher secondary education (10+2) or those who are in the final year of these programmes are also allowed under the GATE eligibility criteria.

Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)
The aspirant is required to have completed a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture degree along with senior higher secondary education (10+2) or those who are in the final year of the program can also apply for the GATE exam.
M.Sc/MA/MCA
[optin-monster-shortcode id=”xf2mlnjiouddzrshykdb”]As per the GATE eligibility requirements, those who have completed a master’s degree in Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent or those who are in the final year of these postgraduate courses can appear in the exam.

BSc. Research/ B.S. Students
The candidate ought to have completed a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Science or a postgraduate diploma in Science after concluding their senior higher secondary education (10+2).
Integrated M.Tech./M.E. (Post B.Sc)
The student must have attained a 4-year integrated master’s degree in Engineering/Technology or those appearing in the 2nd/3rd/4th year are also allowed to apply as per the GATE eligibility conditions.
M.E./M.Tech. or Dual Degree (after Diploma or 10+2)
Those who have completed a 5-year Integrated Dual Degree program or Master’s degree program in Engineering /Technology or are currently appearing in the 4th/5th year can register for the exam as specified in the GATE eligibility criteria.
Integrated M.Sc./ Integrated B.S./M.S.
The aspirant must have concluded an Integrated M.Sc. or a 5-year Integrated BSc-MSc program or those who are currently appearing in the final year are also eligible to appear in GATE Exam.
For Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Arch.)
For this paper, the candidate is required to have completed their degree in B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch. or equivalent examinations from Professional Societies which are acknowledged by UPSC/MHRD/AICTE as per the GATE eligibility.
