Situated in the heart of Shanghai, China, Fudan University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, was established in 1905. The university has witnessed the evolution of China and had been impacted by the multiple invasions, World War II, Civil War and Cultural Revolution. Started as Fudan Public School in 1905, the school was founded by Ma Xiangbo who had just resigned from Aurora University. The university was founded just before the end of Qing Dynasty which gave it an opportunity to adopt the modern way of using education principles and practices. After receiving state recognition, Fudan College became the Private Fudan University in 1917 and opened the faculties of Journalism, municipals, Law, and Education. During the Japanese Invasion in 1937, the university was moved to the War capital of China, Chongqing. In 1941, the government decided to give national university states to FU, and thus, it became National Fudan University. It was moved back too Shanghai in Post-World War II. When the communist Party took over China, it took the national university status. During Cultural Revoluton, Fudan University became the modern comprehensive university in 1970s. In 2010, the two universities Fudan University and Shanghai Medical University, merged and became Fudan University. Today, Fudan University has 17 schools and 69 departments in all schools. It provides 73 undergraduate programs, 201 postgraduate programs and 134 doctoral programs in Law, Business, Finance, Medical, Health Sciences, Political Science, Psychology, Engineering, Sociology, Dentistry and many other multidisciplinary fields. Not just this, it also offers 6 professional degree programs and 25 post-doctoral programs and training in 7 social sciences centers under Ministry of Education. Currently, Fudan University is a home to 77 research institutes and 5 research laboratories. All these research institutes and labs give students an absolute freedom to undertake any research study under guidance. Today, Fudan University has four campus, Handan (??), Fenglin (??), Zhangjiang (??), and Jiangwan (??) located in Shanghai. The main campus is Handan campus which is approx. 600 acres in size and a home to most of the schools and residential blocks. All campuses provides the state-of-the-art facilities including cafeterias, library, labs and research centers, IT rooms and many more. There are around 45,000 students enrolled in the university with 4,000 academic staff members. out of 45,000 students, 3,000 students belong to international student community. According to the QS Ranking, Fudan University is ranked #6 and #40 in Asia and the world in 2019.
