Located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Eastern Michigan University is a publicly funded research university. The fourth American normal school to be founded outside of New England was founded as the Michigan State Normal School in 1849. The first normal school in the US to implement a four-year curriculum was the Michigan State Normal School in 1899. Eastern Michigan University was the designation given to the normal school when it legally converted to a university in 1959.EMU started as Michigan State Normal School and the first course offered was the ‘Constitution of the United States. The University is spread over 800 acres and has 122 buildings at the university campus. The campus boasts smart classrooms, advanced laboratories, computer and IT labs, libraries and seminar halls.
