Why Indians Prefer Working in USA

The United States of America is often labelled as The Land of Opportunity and many immigrants from all across the world make their way to the USA in order to chase what is known as The American Dream.

Did you know that companies in the USA are expressly prohibited from inquiring about the ethnicity of prospective employees, and this is reflected in their workplace culture? Further, it is well known that a decent number of Indians make significant contributions to the organized sector of the US economy. Indians make up 34% of Microsoft employees and 36% of NASA scientists

So what motivates our qualified Indians to work in the USA? Let’s look into some of the prominent reasons.

Work Culture

Qualified Indians who have experienced the work culture in the US are not willing to return to India. This is because they find the Indian work culture vague and unplanned as compared to the USA work culture. The organization system, framework, and innovative infrastructure make the work more seamless for the employees. Factors such as job satisfaction, robust training, and organizational culture have helped build a strong work culture ethic in the USA.

Labour Laws

Some terms and conditions in Indian offices are a nightmare for the employees. For example, if a person wants to change her job, he/she has to serve a notice period of almost 3 months. If an employee does not serve the notice period, then he/she is not provided with the relieving or experience letter.

However, in the USA, there are plenty of labour laws made in favour of employees. For example – since the USA functions on a work-at-will basis, the employees do not necessarily have to serve a notice period before quitting. Additionally, there are plenty of other employee-beneficial policies in place.

Higher Pay

Money is the most crucial factor that employees take into consideration while finding a job.

It is no doubt one of the most inspirational factors for employees. The pay scale in India is relatively less when compared to foreign countries. This is also partly due to the conversation rate and the fact that the US Dollar is a much stronger currency when compared to the Indian Rupee.

Accordingly, employees working in the USA earn double the pay they earn here for the same work. Another best part about the salary is that companies in the USA offer flexible payment options such as Monthy, weekly, and even daily.

Employment Rights

Indian company provides very limited leaves to employees. Some companies have six days of work. In the US apart from sick leave, casual leave, and earned leave companies sanction a variety of leaves for the convenience of the employees, such as disability leave, funeral leave, parental leave, and family emergency leave. The companies in the US understand the need to provide leaves to employees, one being the necessity to give rest to the employees so that they remain energetic and productive.

Work from Home Allowance

Work from home is accepted by the majority of the companies in US. It is preferred by employees as it provides flexibility to work in the comfort of their homes. For employers, it helps them save on office rent and expenses. During WFH employees are seen to be more productive as the commute time and energy is used to enhance productiveness.

Although there are still differences in work cultures around the world, the degree of those differences has decreased over time as a result of globalization and outsourcing. Many companies have improved themselves in terms of infrastructure and amenities. However, some major differences, such as the ones pointed out above, continue to contribute to worker migration from India to the USA. It would be interesting to see how many workers would opt to stay in India if and when these issues are resolved.
