Here’s a list of the IISC Bangalore Scholarship that students can avail of as soon as they join the prestigious institute. Bear in mind that these scholarships apply to all students except for the ones enrolled in MSc (Master of Science) and M.Mgt (Master of Management) or B.Tech programs:

Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)

This IISC Bangalore Scholarship can be availed by any student wishing to pursue PhD at IISC or any other reputed institute in India.

Eligibility Criteria: 

• The applicant must be a final year student enrolled in a UG course, pursuing a 5-year integrated M-Tech, UGPC or M.Sc.
• The applicant must have a score of 8 in CPI or a CGPA of 10 on the proficiency test.

Award Amount:

• INR 70,000 per month for the first 2 years
• INR 75,000 per month for the 3rd year
• INR 80,000 per month from the 4th year onwards
• A grant of INR 10 lakhs is also offered to the students.

IISc Bangalore Scholarship for Meritorious Students

The IISC Bangalore Scholarship for Meritorious Students is given out to PhD candidates with a strong academic record.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Indian citizens with a strong academic record and research potential.
• Must have secured at least 85% marks or equivalent in their qualifying examination.
• Should be pursuing a doctoral program at IISc Bangalore.

Award Amount:

• INR 31,000 per month for the first 2 years
• INR 35,000 per month for the 3rd year
• INR 39,000 per month for the 4th and 5th years

IISc Bangalore Scholarship for Women

This special IISC Bangalore scholarship aims to encourage meritorious women scholars to pursue a career in the field of research despite the financial hurdles.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Indian women with a strong academic record and research potential.
• Must have secured at least 80% marks or equivalent in their qualifying examination.
• Should be pursuing a doctoral program at IISc Bangalore.

• Must have secured at least 75% marks or equivalent in their qualifying examination.

IISc Bangalore Scholarship for International Students

Eligibility Criteria:

• Non-Indian citizens who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university outside India with a strong academic record and research potential.
• Must have secured at least 80% marks or equivalent in their qualifying examination.
• Should be pursuing a doctoral or master’s program at IISc Bangalore.

Award Amount: 

For students enrolled in Doctoral program:

• INR 31,000 per month for the first 2 years
• INR 35,000 per month for the 3rd year
• INR 39,000 per month for the 4th and 5th years

For students enrolled in Master’s program: INR 12,400 per month for the first 2 years

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Scholarship

This IISC Bangalore scholarship is meant for Indian students coming from low-income families.

Eligibility Criteria :

• Indian nationals pursuing regular full-time Mechanical Engineering, M.Tech or Master of Science in Engineering at IISC Bangalore.
• Should have an annual family income of less than INR 6 lakh.
• Should have a valid GATE/JEST/JAM score.
• Should not be availing any other scholarship/fellowship.

Award Amount:

• INR 1.25 lakh per year as tuition and sustenance fee.

Department of Science & Technology (DST) Scholarship

The DST Scholarship is for students studying Science, Math or Engineering in the first year. They must also have a spectacular academic record in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Maths specifically.

Eligibility Criteria:

• The applicant must have a KVPY/INSPIRE Fellowship.
• The applicant must have excellent communication skills in English Language.

Award Amount:

• One qualified student would be allowed in a round trip to China to attend the Asian Science Camp (ASC) with all travel expenses covered.

GARP Funding

This IISC Bangalore scholarship is meant for students whose paper has been accepted for an international conference.

Eligibility Criteria:

• The applicant must be enrolled in regular full-time PhD programs at IISc Bangalore in selected research areas.
• The applicant’s paper must have been accepted for an international conference.

Award Amount:

• INR 1 lakh covering travel expenses.

Terms and Conditions

• In addition to the scholarships mentioned earlier, IISc Bangalore also offers scholarships from various industry partners, including GE, INFOSYS, IBM, HP, TATA, PHILIPS, BELL LAB, and MICROSOFT. These scholarships are available to deserving students based on their academic merit and research potential.
• Upon admission to the M Tech/ M Des programs, students are required to agree and assure that they will complete the entire program. If a student is forced to leave the program midway due to unavoidable circumstances, they must refund the entire scholarship amount they received before leaving the Institute.
• Students who are receiving a salary from their employers or sponsors are not eligible for IISc Bangalore scholarships/fellowships.
• Students admitted to M Sc, M.Mgt, or B. Tech programs are not eligible for Institute-funded scholarships. However, they may still be eligible for scholarships or fellowships from external agencies based on the specific terms and conditions of those agencies.
