Objective

The main focus of the Pre-Matric Disability Scholarship is to help students prepare to earn a livelihood and live with dignity in society. Another objective of this scholarship is to reduce the drop-out rate of disabled students from schools. It does so alleviating their financial burdens that prevent them from continuing their studies. The scholarship also aims to promote inclusivity through this scheme for SwDs, allowing them a chance at academic excellence.

Who is Eligible for Pre-Matric Disability Scholarship?

To be eligible for Pre-Matric Disability Scholarship, students need to fulfil the following criteria:

  1. The applicant must be a student of Class 9 or 10.
  2. The applicant must be enrolled in a government-recognized school or one affiliated with Central/State Education Boards (CBSE/SBSE).
  3. The applicant must have more than 40% of the disability with a certification from a competent authority.
  4. The applicant’s annual family income must not exceed INR 2.5 lakh (from all sources).

How Much is Pre-Matric Disability Scholarship?

If the candidates satisfy the criteria for the scheme, then they receive multiple monthly and annual benefits in the form of maintenance allowance, book grant, and disability allowance. The breakdown of the scholarship amount for each benefit is given in the table below:

Pre-Matric Disability Scholarship: Application Process

To avail of the Pre-Matric Disability Scholarship, aspiring students need to follow the steps below to apply for the same:

  1. Go to the official page of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
  2. Login with your credentials. If you are new, click on the “Register” button to register yourself using your email ID/phone number/Gmail.
  3. Now login again using your new ID and password and click on “Fresh Application”.
  4. Fill in the required details in the application form along with the relevant documents.
  5. Submit your application form.

Note: No changes are allowed once an application form is submitted. Applying for the scholarship more than once will lead to the cancellation of all applications by the candidate.
