ULSAT Eligibility Criteria

ULSAT is the entrance examination conducted by the UPES to test candidates for their aptitude in Law. The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Dehradun has a dedicated School of Law to promote research and education in Law. 

It offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Integrated courses for Law. Integrated programs like BA LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB, B.Tech LLB, LLB and LLM are offered through various pathways including the ULSAT Examination. The eligibility for each pathway is different and is covered in this blog.

ULSAT 2023 Latest Updates

The ULSAT has opened its door for applicants in all its law-based courses. The applications are open till the 25th of April 2023 to apply for exams and the candidates can apply online on the university website. The exams will be conducted from the 28th of April 2023 to the 30th of April 2023. Applicants can book their examination slots as the university sends an email with a link to book slots.

Types of Pathways

It is important to discuss pathways for this examination as each pathway has different eligibility criteria for admission to the UPES. There are 2 different pathways for admission to UPES College, Dehradun: The Examination Pathway and the Non-Examination Pathway. 

Examination Pathway: 

The examination pathway is where the candidates have to give an entrance examination to get entry into the college. This includes entry through ULSAT Entrance exam scores or CLAT or LSAT Exam scores. 

Non-Examination Pathway: 

The non-examination pathway is where the candidates can claim admission without giving entrance exams on the basis of their scores in the Matriculation and Intermediate examinations. To get admissions through merit, the candidate has to apply and send their details by March 12, 2023. 

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for sitting in ULSAT are different from the eligibility for admissions in UPES integrated law courses. Let’s discuss the various eligibilities in terms of the stage of examination and examination pathway. 

ULSAT Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for giving the UPES Legal Studies Aptitude Test (ULSAT) Examination are given below. 

  1. There is no age limit for the examination. 
  2. The candidates must have passed class 12th from a reputed educational institute.
  3. The candidate must have scored at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination. 
  4. Appearing candidates can also apply, but their admission will be subjected to the submission of the Class 12th mark sheet at the time of admission counselling.

UPES Law School Admission Eligibility 

This includes eligibility for Examination and Non-examination pathways. The students planning admission to UPES university can refer to the following information regarding eligibility. 

ULSAT Admissions

  1. To get admission with ULSAT Scores, the candidate must make it to the cutoff marks of ULSAT that will be released after the declaration of results. 
  2. The candidate must then be able to clear the group discussion and interview. A merit list at the end of the examination will be the final results. 
  3. If the appearing candidates are not able to score at least 50% in Class 12th they will be disqualified from admission irrespective of their entrance scores. 

CLAT Scores

  1. To get admission through CLAT Scores the candidate must have passed class 12th from a reputed educational institute with at least 50% marks. 
  2. The candidate must also have a CLAT Rank of up to 15000. 
  3. If the appearing candidates are not able to score at least 50% in Class 12th they will be disqualified from admission irrespective of their entrance scores. 

LSAT Scores

  1. To get admission through LSAT Scores the candidate must have passed class 12th from a reputed educational institute with at least 50% marks. 
  2. The percentile in LSAT India must be at least 60%. 
  3. If the appearing candidates are not able to score at least 50% in Class 12th they will be disqualified from admission irrespective of their entrance scores. 

Merit-Based Admission

  1. Must have cleared class 12th from a reputed institute. 
  2. Must have scored at least 80% marks in the Class 12th examination.
  3. The candidates appearing for the class 12th examination in 2023 are not eligible to apply through this pathway.

Personal Interview

UPES Conducts Group Discussions and Personal Interviews for those who clear the ULSAT Examination and make it to the ULSAT Merit list after the cutoff has been released. The eligibility to appear for the interview is as follows.

  1. The candidate must have cleared class 12th with at least 50% marks. 
  2. Their ULSAT Scores must be more than or equal to the ULSAT Cutoff. 
  3. The candidate must appear online for the interview in the allotted slot at Microsoft Teams. 

FAQs

What is the syllabus for ULSAT Exam?

The syllabus for BA LLB, BBA LLB and B.Com LLB programmes is Language Comprehension, Quantitative and Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude. For LLM Course the syllabus is Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and Other law subjects. 

Can I apply for ULSAT at the age of 35?

The ULSAT Examination has no age bar. Candidates from all age groups can apply for the UPES Legal Studies Aptitude Test. 

What scores are accepted by UPES for admission to Law school?

For admissions to law school, the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies accept ULSAT, CLAT, LSAT and even the CUET Scores.
