1889: Establishment of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad established the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Qadian, British India, on March 23, 1889.
1931: Martyrs Day (Shaheed Diwas)
Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, were hanged during the Indian Independence movement.
1940: Lahore resolution
In the All India Muslim League’s annual general convention, the Lahore Resolution was put forward on March 23, 1940.
1994: Kapil Dev
This day marked the last test of test cricket for Indian cricketer Kapil Dev.

1153: Treaty of Konstanz
The Treaty of Konstanz between Frederick I “Barbarossa” & Pope Eugene III was signed on March 23, 1153. 
1775: American Revolutionary war
Patrick Henry proclaimed the famous “Give me liberty or give me death” in a speech favouring Virginian troops joining the US Revolutionary war.
1857: Elisha Otis
Industrialist and elevator inventor Elisha Otis installed his first elevator at 488 Broadway in New York City.
1867: Second Resolution Act
Congress passed the second Reconstruction Act over President Andrew Johnson’s veto.
1919: Fascist movement in Italy
Italian dictator Benito Mussolini formed and began the Fascist movement in Milan, Italy.
1919: Russian communist Party’s 5 member politburo
Eighth Congress of the Russian Communist Party re-established a five-member Politburo, which became the centre of political power in the Soviet Union on March 23, 1919. The original members were Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin, Lev Kamenev and Nikolai Krestinsky.
1933: Enabling Act
On this day, the German Reichstag granted Adolf Hitler dictatorial powers.
1945: Battle of Okinawa
US Navy ships bombed the Japanese island of Okinawa in preparation for the Allied invasion. It became the largest battle of the Pacific War in World War II on March 23, 1945.
1983: Ronald Reagan
US President Ronald Reagan introduced the Strategic Defense Initiative on this day in history. 
2016: Investigation of Shakespeare’s tomb
GPR investigation of Shakespeare’s tomb at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford concludes Bard’s skull probably has been stolen.
