History, Affiliations and Rankings

Sacred Heart University started its journey in 1963 on the grounds of the former Notre Dame Catholic High School. It was founded by Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport. Sacred Heart University has been affiliated with the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and Council of Independent Colleges. Athletically, it has been affiliated with NCAA Division I - NEC, CAA, ECAC, AHA, EIVA. As per THE US College Rankings 2022, the university is ranked between #401 - 500. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The main campus is located in suburban Fairfield, Connecticut. The university consists of five colleges: College of Arts & Sciences, which includes the School of Communication & Media Arts and the School of Computing, Jack Welch College of Business and Technology; College of Health Professions; College of Nursing and the Isabelle Farrington College of Education. The University has a centre for healthcare education inBridgeport Connecticut, a west campus in Fairfield, Connecticut, Stamford Campus in Stamford Connecticut, Griswold campus in Griswold Connecticut, a campus in Luxembourg and Ireland, and a WHSU broadcast centre in Fairfield Connecticut. It has been accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. Sacred Heart University offers more than 80 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Since its establishment 59 years ago, Sacred Heart university has had a long road of History and accomplishments. It was the first Catholic University built and staffed by Lay people, Recognized for being a Catholic College of Distinction and a College of Distinction in Connecticut. Many Notable alumni like Suzanne Greco (former President and CEO of Subway), Jeff LeBlanc (singer/songwriter), and Carlo Leone (Connecticut State Senator) have graduated through the Sacred Heart University.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Sacred Heart University has a total student number of more than 6000 with around 2.9% of it being International students representing more than 50 countries. The University has ties with many international universities and institutions to provide international exposure to the students. Sacred Heart University provides career services to all the students and organizes many career fairs in which many prominent employers recruit graduates of the University.
