History, Affiliations and Rankings
Istituto Europeo di Design, established in 1966, is a private design School founded by Francesco Morelli. Spanning a history of over 50 years, the Institute began its journey in Milan, and expanded to multiple campuses in the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1990s, campuses in Madrid and Barcelona were established. The largest Higher Education Network for the creative fields, IED is an international institution with global outlook, situated across 12 campuses in 3 countries, Italy, Spain and Brazil. It is authorized to issue certified diplomas in the schools of Advanced Artistic Studies. It is affiliated with Culture Action Europe, International Association of Universities and Colleges of Arts, Design and Media, The European League of Institutions of Arts, and the World Design Organization.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Instituto Europeo Di Design has its main campus in Italy, Its other 13 locations are spread over in 9 cities, which are Milan, Turin, Venice, Cagliari, Florence, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid and São Paulo. It offers 29 different courses of three-year duration, in several languages: English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. IED is academically organized into 4 Schools that offer specialized courses in Design, Fashion, Visual Communication and Management. Some of these include, Creative and Art Direction, Graphic Design and Visual Communication, Fashion Communication and Management, Accessories and Visual Design among others.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Istituto Europeo di Design is one of the leading institutions for courses in Design and Communication and a breeding ground for creative minds and is a partner and launching ground for several businesses Recently, the CEOWorld listed IED Barcelona among the Best Fashion Schools in the World and the only Fashion School in Spain to make it to the list. Further, students from IED were selected to participate in a co-creation project with the ONCE Foundation, which is the second edition of the "Design for Inclusion" program. More than 10,000 students graduate from IED each year, with the University's alumni network comprising over 1,00,000 graduates, including several notable alumni names. Some of these include, Maria Grazia Chiuri (Italian Fashion Designer and Creative Director), Manuel Alberto Claro (Cinematographer, Filmmaker and Still Photographer), and Natalie Korneitsik (Public Figure and Fashion Model).
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
More than 30% of the student body of the institute is composed of international students. The institute has made a plethora of international relations and affiliations to provide international experience to all the students be it through internships abroad or exchange programs. Most of the professors working in the university are working professionals in the industry so this gives the students a very real experience of the industry and helps them get a job. Amazon, Accenture, Gucci, the Prada Group, Deloitte, Randstad Italia, Google, Microsoft and other organizations recruit graduates from Istituto Europeo di Design.
