History, Affiliations and Rankings
Esslingen University of Applied Sciences was established in 1868 in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany. It is also known as Hochschule Esslingen. The university was started as the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Royal School of Construction in Stuttgart to provide the best engineering practices to all students. Soon, the demand for this program increased and the school decided to shift its campus from Stuttgart to Esslingen in 1914. It was only in 1971, the state of Esslingen decided to rename the university to the Esslingen Technical University of Applied Sciences in 1975. In 2006, two Esslingen universities, two Esslingen, Hochschule für Technik (FHTE) University of Applied Sciences and Hochschule für Sozialwesen (HfS), University of Technology and Social Work merged together to become a single entity, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, or Hochschule Esslingen.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Today, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences has three campuses: City Campus, Hilton Campus, and Goppingen campus. The main campus is the City Campus which is at the center of Esslingen and is an architectural mix of the neoclassical and the futuristic modern. All administrative offices and departments are located on this campus. The Hilton campus is near the City Campus and it is the home for Esslingen University of Applied Sciences’ English programs. The Goppingen campus is the newest campus and it is quite far from the City and Hilton campus.
Esslingen University of Applied Sciences has 11 faculties including Natural Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Management, Automotive Engineering, Esslingen Graduate School, Basic Sciences, Information Technology, Mechatronics, and Electrical Engineering, Social Work, Health Care, and Nursing Sciences, Building Services, Energy and Environmental Engineering, Engineering Management. It offers around 25 undergraduate programs and 12 postgraduate programs. Not just this, it also offers a wide range of certification and part-time programs in all fields. In addition to this, Esslingen University of Applied Sciences also has many research institutes and centers which help students to undertake any research studies under guidance.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Esslingen University of Applied Sciences is accredited with Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg, the foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) and Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics/Computer Science, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (ASIIN). The notable alumni of the institute are Werner Dieter, Richard Drauz (1894-1946) in Landsberg Lech (executed as a war criminal), who headed up the NSDAP in the Heilbronn district, and Ludwig Dürr.
