The International scholarships granted by the British government are available to Indian students with excellent academic record.

The UK government offers plenty of scholarships for International students to study in the UK. The scholarships can be availed by Indian students as well. Generally, the scholarships offered for postgraduate students covers the tuition fees, living expenses, travel expenses, and additional expenses inccured by the student.

Chevening Scholarship in India

The UK government offers the Chevening scholarship, fully funding one year of study for Master’s students. Indian students who have received an offer letter from a UK university can apply for the scholarship.

However, the student must have completed their undergraduate degree and have a minimum of two years of work experience. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to return to their home country after the award has ended. Applications for the Chevening Scholarships 2024/25 will open in August 2023.

Great scholarships India

The UK government, in collaboration with the British Council, funds the Great Scholarships, awarding a total of 13 scholarships to postgraduate students for studying in 12 educational institutions in the UK. The Great scholarship offers an amount of  £10,000 (INR 10.43 lakh) to the beneficiaries.

However, to be eligible for the scholarship the student must meet the academic requirements, english proficiency requirements, and demonstrate work experience/proven interest in the proposed subject area.  The deadline for the scholarship varies on the basis of the university. However, it will be between April-June for the next academic year.

Commonwealth Masters Scholarship

Commonwealth Masters Scholarship is provided by the Department of International Development (DFID) for Indian students to pursue Masters and PhD in the UK. The scholarship would cover the tuition fees, travel expenses, thesis grant, and offer additional allowance for examination and personal expenses.

To avail this scholarship Indian students must hold an upper second class (2;1) honors degree, and provide justification for pursuing education in the UK. Next year, the scholarship notification for the 2024-25 academic session will be released.

However, this is a need based scholarship and is only available to students who can’t afford to study in the UK.
