Housing developers in Glasgow, Scotland, UK are planning to build around 300 student flats for their accommodation. This is to be done on vacant land in the city centre to meet housing needs. According to media reports, the accommodation will be an 11-storey building. The building will also contain a cinema and a gym. The building will be constructed on a vacant lot near the King Street car park.
Plans are in the pipeline and the blueprint is sent to the city council for approval. According to the plans, the building will include 62 one-bed studios, ten one-bed flats and 16 accessible flats.
Amenities Included in Student Accommodation
The studio flats will also have a communal lounge, workspaces and a gym on the ground floor. Moreover, bicycle storage and laundry facilities will be available in the basement. In addition, there will be a private dining room for residents with a landscaped terrace.
This development comes after a sharp increase in population in recent years, which has increased the pressure to create housing complexes.
Recent data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows that the population in Glasgow in June 2021 was 6,35,130. It has shown a decrease of one per cent compared to 6,35,640 in 2020. Of all the boroughs in Scotland, Glasgow recorded the highest population in 2021.
The proposal also points out that the number of students will soon increase, which will put pressure on accommodation, so it is very important to build student housing.
