Moreover, with the growing trend of becoming digital nomads, it is also important to discover destinations best suited for it. This trend started in July 2020, during the pandemic in Estonia but continued and became even more popular after the restrictions were lifted.

Germany offers one of the longest digital nomad visa durations lasting upto 3 years. It is available under the name of Freelance “Freiberufler” Visa in the country allowing people to work remotely while they live in Germany

The Cayman Islands is another good place to apply for a long-term visa for digital nomads. It offers a Global Citizen Concierge Program to avail of a visa with upto 24 months validity. Similarly, Antigua & Barbuda also offer 2-year digital nomad visas. 

Dubai, which is one of the top international destinations for many but hard to find work in, also offers a 1-year visa under the Virtual Working Programme. Other countries with long-term visas are Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Spain, Mexico and guess what? Even Australia offers a one-year visa for digital nomads.

Cost Effective Features & Cheap Visas

Many countries offer tax exemptions for digital nomads. These include Croatia, Portugal and Albania. Taxes are applicable to them only after spending a minimum amount of time in the country. Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados and Latvia all offer 2-year or 1-year tax exemptions for digital nomads. 

Also, nearly 6% of countries have no application costs for visas. The highest a digital nomad visa can cost you is €1,000. Many countries have a minimum salary requirement to work as a digital nomad which ranges between $1,000 to $100,000 depending on the country. 

However, some countries like Anguilla, the Bahamas, Curaçao, Morocco and Saint Lucia do not even require that. This is like an extended workcation for people who love to travel on an affordable budget.

Online application is the easiest way to apply and nearly 76% of the destinations have provisions of online application for digital nomad visa. 

Four-fifths of the countries process visa applications within a month. Greece, Morocco and Barbados gave out their decisions within 10 days.
