SAT Eligibility Criteria in India: An Overview

Indian students intending to appear for the SAT exam must meet certain criteria. These exam requirements are as follows: 

  • There is no age limit set for taking the SAT exam. In other words, there is no maximum or minimum age to take the exam.
  • There is no academic qualification required for SAT registration. However, if a student wants to obtain a degree from their preferred university abroad, it is recommended that they prepare for the exam during their high school years. 
  • Candidates can appear for the SAT exam innumerable times. Therefore, even if you are not able to clear the test in the first go, you may reappear for the exam next time. 
  • It is, however, recommended that students appear for the SAT exam twice before finishing their high school education.

SAT Exam Age Limit for Indian Students 

There is no set age limit for taking the SAT exam in India. However, students who are in classes 10 and 11th are advised to attempt the SAT exam twice before completing high school. 

Although there is no set age limit for taking the exam, there are certain conditions that must be kept in mind by the test-takers. 

  1. Individuals under the age of 13 cannot register for their SAT exam online. Such individuals are required to register via phone or mail. Students under the age of 13 can apply for cast waivers. 
  2. Individuals who are studying in classes below 9th grade are not required to submit their photos along with their registration. Instead, such individuals must submit their valid  IDs to the authorities on the day of the exam. 
  3. Students above the age of 21 must submit their valid government-issued photo IDs to the exam centers. 

SAT Eligibility for Students with Disabilities

Individuals who are physically disadvantaged are exempted from certain eligibility requirements. The College Board, the conducting body of the SAT exam, provides added facilities and exclusions to eligible candidates. Individuals can avail the benefits of such perks only after acquiring approval by the College Board’s Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) unit. Once the committee has approved such individuals’ candidature, they will be entitled to request additional facilities for both the SAT General and SAT Subject Tests. Here are some of the facilities for disabled students: 

  1. Visually impaired individuals are provided Braille for taking the test. 
  2. Individuals are provided extra time for taking the SAT exam. 
  3. Computers are provided to such individuals during the essay sections. 
  4. Students with physical disabilities are provided additional breaks during the exam. 

SAT Exam Eligibility for ID Proof

SAT aspirants must submit their government-issued ID proofs for the verification and identification of their candidature. Indian students are only allowed to submit their passports for taking the SAT exam. Students must ensure that their documents are authenticated and valid.
