Carnegie Melon University Application Process 

Carnegie Mellon University utilizes only the Common Application and mandates that all applications be submitted online. While there is a USD 75 (INR 6k) application fee, students who qualify based on the economic need indicators provided in the Common Application can request a fee waiver. 

Admission Requirements for Carnegie Melon University 

Requirements for admission to the program include a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 (equivalent to 85%), proficiency in the English language as demonstrated by TOEFL IBT scores of 100-102 or IELTS scores of 7.0-7.5, standardized test scores such as GMAT ranging from 640 to 750, or GRE scores of 153 (Verbal), 163 (Quantitative), and 4.0 (Analytical Writing). 

Additionally, applicants must submit 1-3 letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, a professional resume or CV, and have relevant work experience.

There are some necessary documents that the students need to submit in order to apply.

Carnegie Mellon offers three admission options: 

• Early Decision 1 (ED 1)
• Early Decision 2 (ED 2)
• Regular Decision (RD)

Applying under the Early Decision 1 or Early Decision 2 plans implies a binding commitment for students, meaning that if they are accepted, they are obligated to attend the university. Typically, applicants who opt for early decisions have a higher acceptance rate compared to those who apply through regular decisions. However, it’s important to note that Early Decision 1 is not open for certain programs such as acting, directing, dramaturgy, music theatre, or the School of Music. Similarly, Early Decision 2 is not available for the Schools of Drama, Music, Design, or Art.

Supplemental Essays

Carnegie Mellon University mandates applicants to write three supplementary essays.
