When is National Screenwriters Day Celebrated?

National Screenwriters Day is celebrated on 5 January to acknowledge the vital unappreciated contributors behind the frame of the cinema and TV industry.

Everyone would know who is the actor, director, or producer of any famous movie but we all forget to appreciate the work of screenplay writers who design and write exceptional roles and dialogues for the actors and add entertainment to the movies, series, or television serials. 

This day was started in 2015 when a website called ScreenwritingU was developed to provide courses and resources to aspiring screenplay writers.

History of National Screenwriters Day

This Day was founded by the leading educational source for budding screenwriters in the world i.e. on 5 January 2015. The purpose of this day is to highlight the efforts of the screenplay writers behind the scenes. 

The first screenplay was written in 1902 by Georges Méliès for the film “A Trip to the Moon.” then in 1902, an organisation named the Screen Writer’s Guild of America for formed. The Screenplay Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay was awarded to George Wells for Designing Woman in 1957. Then in 2016, the first National Screenwriters Day was celebrated by ScreenwritingU. In 2018, Jordan Peele, the first African-American to win an Oscar Award for Best Original Screenplay for Get Out.
