Chhat Puja (Pratihar Sashthi/Surya Sashthi): 7th November 2024
Chhat Puja 2024 will be celebrated on 7th November. Chhat Puja is mostly celebrated in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. This festival is dedicated to the worship of the Sun God.
Chhath Puja is observed on the sixth day of the Hindu month of Kartik, which usually falls in October or November of the Gregorian calendar. The festival spans four days and involves various rituals, including fasting, holy bathing, standing in water for long periods, and offering prayers to the setting and rising sun.
On this day, devotees take a holy dip in rivers like Ganga and Yamuna and prepare a special meal called kaddu-bhat (flavoured rice and gourd).
Guru Nanak Janati (Gupurab): 15th November 2024
Guru Nanak Janati or Gurpurab 2024 will be obsered on 15th November. Gurpurab is a gazetted holiday in India, where schools and offices are closed. Gurpurab marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikkism.

Guru Tegbahadur’s Martyrdom Day: 24th November 2024
Guru Tegbahadur’s Martyrdom Day 2024 will be celebrated on 24th November. This day is also known as Shaheedi Divas. It marks the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. Guru Tegh Bahadur was executed on November 24, 1675, under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb for standing up against religious persecution and defending the rights of the oppressed.
On this day, Sikhs around the world gather at Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) to remember his sacrifice. Special prayers, kirtan (devotional singing), and readings from the Guru Granth Sahib (the holy scripture of Sikhism) take place.
